He could have taken a stand. He could have supported freedom of the press. He could have risked unpopularity with those who made this stupid decision. But that would have required courage and leadership. So not an option, then.
This was the statement released by Police Scotland after the footage of the incident in Dundee went viral last year. It seems that everything was done to give the impression that the young girl was the aggressor and the migrant couple the victims. A court decided yesterday that it was the other way round. Blatant disinformation. Police Scotland owe everyone an explanation.
🚨ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! 🤯
🤦♂️ Ferrari Asks Benn SIX times: “Is Beheading an Alien Culture?” — Labour MP Still Can’t Say YES
Nick Ferrari just hammered Labour’s Hilary Benn on LBC, demanding FOUR TIMES if beheading is an “alien culture” after a Sudanese asylum seeker tried to hack a man’s head off in Belfast.
Simple. Straightforward. Bleeding obvious answer: f*cking YES!
But watch Benn squirm like he’s being asked to defuse a bomb. Painful. Ridiculous. Embarrassing.
Ferrari: “Is beheading an alien culture?”
Benn: Starts waffling about the “criminal justice process”…
Ferrari (cutting him off, frustrated): “I’ve moved you globally, Mr Benn. We’re not talking about the UK. Globally, is beheading an alien culture?”
Benn: Calls it “abhorrent” but still dodges…
Ferrari: “And is it an alien culture?”
Benn keeps refusing to just say it. Talks about “all countries would condemn it.”
Ferrari: “So it is an alien culture?”
Benn starts rambling about “what is that saying about people who come from a particular country…”
Ferrari (now properly irritated): “I’m going to ask for the fourth time: is beheading an alien culture, Mr Benn?”
Benn: “It is abhorrent and it is a terrible thing to do.”
Ferrari: “It is or it is not?”
Benn (still can’t quite say it, but closer): “It is alien to all right thinking people.”
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. He literally cannot bring himself to say the bleeding obvious.
What the hell is wrong with these politicians? Who exactly are they so terrified of upsetting with a basic question like this? Is there a town square of beheaders somewhere going “He said WHAT!? We’ve been cancelled!” 😂
Just say it, for God’s sake.!
Early morning to local store to buy a pint (or a half litre?) of milk & scan the newspaper front pages.
Most lead on a Sudanese man, gnawing at a man's head with a Stanley knife.
One, Daily Mirror, leads with story of a Somalian man refused entry to USA.
Editors make choices.
💬 @JohnSwinney today admitted there weren't "adequate controls" to prevent Murrell's thieving.
"The systems in place shouldn't have been able to be abused but they were."
I reminded him last week he said the systems did not fail.
Response: "DON'T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH!"
She was his boss, she was the SNP leader, she was the treasurer, she signed off the snp accounts, she shut down anyone who dared ask about the accounts.
She knew.
She is a liar and no amount of crocodile tears can save her.
She is not being held responsible for her husband’s crimes. She is being called to account for her deliberate frustration of the legitimate scrutiny which might have revealed those crimes. The distinction should be perfectly intelligible to anyone except the disingenuous.
It’s very important for people to understand that Ian Blackford was instrumental in helping Nicola shut down scrutiny and demonise anyone who dared to scrutinise the party’s internal governance, lack of an independence strategy and damaging embrace of identity politics.
A thought experiment.
A white British boy is found guilty of stabbing to death a black British boy.
The police handcuff the black British boy when he is bleeding out and dying.
They refuse to try & save his life. His last words are: “I can’t breathe”.
The police later issue a weak apology.
But no heads roll.
Nobody is sacked.
The police body cam footage is not released.
Now ask yourself:
What would Keir Starmer, Yvette Cooper, Sadiq Khan, Jess Phillips and countless other MPs and celebrities be doing right now?
We know exactly what they would be doing.
They would be protesting. Marching. Screaming. Demanding the footage be released.
And dropping one video and statement after another on social media.
Now have a look around at what they are all doing about the Henry Nowak case.
And that is exactly why millions of British people talk about “two-tier Britain”.
@afneil@FOWingsScot A reminder of the repeated public reassurances that SNP Leader, and Acting Treasurer, Nicola Sturgeon gave to members and public about how Party finances were being handled. Sturgeon was only in that position as the real Treasurer resigned after they wouldn’t show him the books.
John Swinney tells @heraldscotland's Brian Taylor that "people have got to move on" when it comes to Sinn Féin.
