If you want to understand the US, this video would be a very good place to start
The median American is not interested in what happens overseas. This is a constraint on the US government (voters don’t like foreign adventurism) but also liberates the government as well (you can do what you want and you don’t need to build “consensus” at home. Do most Americans support the air war in Iran? Does it matter? Even asking the question is the wrong frame in my opinion)
But woe to the politician in DC who forgets The First Commandment of American interventionism:
Thou Shalt Not Visit the Consequences on Americans
America is very big, very rich, and usually able to externalize the downsides of its foreign policy on others. So in practice, American politicians can get away with a lot. But most countries don’t have this luxury
You read a lot of moralizing commentary on X about how America’s decisions will inevitably blow back on the US. But this never really seems to happen.
Believing in some sort of divine or programmed moral comeuppance is a kind of cope. It will never arrive

While Gwen Stefani is busy promoting her anti-abortion praying app and following questionable accounts on Instagram, No Doubt member Tony Kanal was seen in a shirt promoting LGBTQ+ rights yesterday with fellow bandmate Adrian Young,
The ‘Harry Canyon’ segment from Heavy Metal presents a chaotic futuristic city, filled with flying cars, neo-noir aesthetics, and a cynical protagonist who moves through a decadent urban world like a lone cab driver. This vision of the future blends gritty science fiction, adult humor, and a visual language rooted in Métal Hurlant. 🚕🌆
That same aesthetic stands as one of the clearest visual influences on The Fifth Element, especially in its depiction of the megacity, aerial traffic, and the pulp tone of the character Korben Dallas. The connection is further reinforced by the influence of artists linked to the Heavy Metal universe, such as Moebius, whose work helped shape the visual identity of the film directed by Luc Besson. 🚀🎬
