On the #LRZ news: the numbers floating around are misleading. Total contract was $2.85m over 3 years, but with only $250,000 guaranteed. That was always a zero risk move for the team, and he can stay on a practice squad as an international rookie.

Unpopular opinion: Week 1 rivalry matches are a waste. Give me Seattle/San Diego after both teams have had a little time to sync up. (With so many moving pieces, there might not have been another option, but still) #MLR2024
Everyone’s out here acting like they’re stunned that #MLR doesn’t like receiving objective analysis, yet it’s the whole reason they’ve never answered one comment request for RFT.
@NathanTubbs5 A lot of them are shipped out because the team realizes they don’t want/can’t afford to carry them. If they had real input, then the uselessness of the draft would be too obvious.
Friendly reminder that watching the MLR Draft means listening to people tell you what happened during a meeting two days ago in which people decided where young, talented rugby players have to move to pursue the game for almost no money. #MLR2023
@NathanTubbs5 It doesn’t have to be a total free for all. The league could limit the amount of cap space dedicated to rookies. Or it could institute a uniform ‘rookie contract’ so that players would still be able to sign with teams that commit to developing them instead of sitting on depth
@NathanTubbs5 MLR isn’t the issue at hand; it’s the draft. A player that’s making such a minimal salary should be able to freely negotiate with any team at any location. Imagine getting an accounting degree and then being assigned to a firm across the country. That’s what’s happening here.
