Honestly this is kind of the issue with trading Cam in general. The list of teams that can just take on $20+M without sending any money back is very short
If the Nuggets trade Cam it will be to get his money off the books to sign Watson. Phoenix can't accommodate that so they don't make much sense as a destination for him.
@aucunenquete@jaycee9987 Yeah, I think how gettable he is depends on how much interest he gets from other teams. Hopefully something like this is the best they can do for him
@aucunenquete@jaycee9987 Yeah Scotty would be great. He's a useful player and actually makes slightly less than the minimum so it's kind of the max possible cost savings. But that's also why I'm a little bit skeptical about Memphis going for something like that lol
@aucunenquete@jaycee9987 You have to have at least 14 players on standard contracts. Technically they could run for the first 4 weeks of the season with only 12 and then sign two prorated minimums from there to get up to 14 but it wouldn't save them much and would cause them to lose out on better players
@aucunenquete@jaycee9987 Apologies for the picture of the computer screen lol but this is where they land in that scenario. It's not possible unfortunately.
@samschwartz71 1. Harper is not one of the best guards in the world.
2. Harper today after a full season in the NBA is a lot better than he was at Rutgers.
3. Ace Bailey currently sucks relative to other NBA players.
@aucunenquete@jaycee9987 I think getting Holland in that same deal is a pipe dream haha, but if they did pull off Holmes for him they'd only be able to use part of the TPMLE and they probably wouldn't even do that. Basically they'd just be filling out the roster with minimums from there.
@OakTreeStatus Lol yeah I think I've seen a couple without him but he's definitely a cheat code. Everything else has to be perfect if you don't get him
@ameer45_@esidery I didn't see it anywhere, it's just how the math works lol. Dumping Cam's salary and the re-signing Watson doesn't do anything to get them out of the tax.
There is tangible trade interest in Cam Johnson from multiple contending teams entering this offseason.
The Nuggets are widely expected to offload Johnson’s $23.1 million expiring contract in order to re-sign Peyton Watson and maintain long-term cap flexibility.
@esidery Cam Johnson is on an expiring deal, trading him has nothing to do with maintaining long-term cap flexibility. It's about maintaining short-term cap flexibility so they don't go into the second apron next season.
@aucunenquete Yeah it's just not really feasible with Phoenix. Even if they did trade for Allen he's making too much. They'd have to then turn around and trade Allen for less to get under the second apron.
If the Nuggets trade Cam it will be to get his money off the books to sign Watson. Phoenix can't accommodate that so they don't make much sense as a destination for him.
League sources say that Denver’s Cam Johnson has continued to signal interest in a potential reunion with Phoenix should he become available via trade.
@Bucketsince88 The problem with Watson is they're not gonna go into the second apron to keep him, and if you swap him out for Cam you're not getting any better (pending what you get in a trade for Cam). Now if you could swap him out for CB somehow, then you're cooking. But I doubt that happens
