"I think that at that time, there was Fiona Apple and all of these different bands, and she was on Columbia Records too. I remember thinking that this would be a really cool thing to do. It was me and one other Black artist who were playing in this alternative R&B box, and it was an absolute no from people behind the scenes — it felt like an absolute no.

And going from 'Dilemma' into 'Stole' also kind of made people go, 'Well, why did you do that?' I was nervous about it, but I still did it. I still did it, and it worked overseas, but it was the sacrifice I made to try something new."
