Wayne K. Patterson was the warden of Colorado State Penitentiary (now Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility) from 1965-1972. In his free time he had a unique hobby: bone painting.
He would hunt in the mountains for old animal bones, preserve and white-wash them, then use acrylic paints to create characters. His bone paintings first caught the eye of the public during the Colorado State Penitentiary Art Show in 1968. 🎨
