Two men who ran AAP's trade wing in 2022 signed a letter against the INDIA bloc's 1 November rally, and Godi Media and the BJP ran with it. Brijesh Goyal fought from New Delhi on an AAP ticket in 2019 and then switched to the BJP. This morning his handle retweeted BJPтАЩs tweets twice in two minutes.
The letter Godi Media is selling was written in BJP HQ. Goyal and Subhash Khandelwal wore the traders' costume to deliver it. There are more people inside a candy shop in a colony than in this prop used as a traders' body, the Chamber of Quick Change.
On one hand the BJP says only a few thousand Congress workers will turn up. On the other, it props up a farzi traders' body to warn that the crowd will be too big for Delhi. Both cannot be true.
The BJP is going to put up barricades and choke traffic so the crowd coming for the rally can't reach the shops. This is not the first rally at Ramlila Maidan. We hold one there almost every year. Managing a gathering so nobody faces trouble is the govt's job, and blocking roads is the govt's failure. Ever since the farmers' protest, the BJP shuts roads, people suffer, and then Godi media and the BJP blame the gathering. Delhi's shopkeepers don't mind a few lakh extra customers in the week before Diwali. It only helps them.
Delhi's traders and shopkeepers are rather looking forward to 1 November. Lakhs are coming to the city in the week before Diwali. Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Karol Bagh and Lajpat Nagar will fill. Sweet shops and dhabas will run out of tables, and autos and the metro will be packed. The markets are open and ready for the rush.
When the rally ends at Ramlila Maidan, the shopping begins. Lakhs will fill Sadar Bazaar, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Kamla Nagar, and nobody travels this far for just one day. Sweet shops and dhabas will run out of tables, and autos and the metro will be packed. Democracy is bringing Delhi's markets a Diwali to remember.
