Uruguayan Economist and Labour Statistician @ONUMX, focused on promoting sustainable development everywhere.
Tweets and retweets reflect my personal views.
I finally set up my Twitter, where I will discuss issues related to development, the labour market, decent work, social dialogue and the importance of data. And probably also cats. #myfirstTweet
@lalismos@yoparami@rorypasteura Doy fe. Es verdad que lo leí bastante rápido, hay algo perverso en lo malo que es que atrapa, pero es muy poco verosímil. Los personajes no están bien definidos, o bueno, todo el tiempo actúan contra lo que sería su naturaleza.
Gender violence (already at unacceptable levels before the pandemic) rose dreadfully this year with lockdowns. Feeling and being safe is a basic human right and equal rights is what we strive for. We should all feel safe on the street, at school, at work, and especially at home.
La Organización de las Naciones Unidas convoca a la sociedad a hacer frente a otra pandemia: la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas, la cual ha generado que en México 7 de cada 10 mujeres hayan enfrentado algún tipo de violencia.

We owe so much to Justice Ginsburg. Her legacy in advancing human rights is remarkable and our best way to honour her is to keep on building on it.

On International #DayOfFamilies, we celebrate families as basic units of society. Using labour statistics, we can see how our marital status still shapes our labour market outcomes. https://t.co/BHU7fPXiKM
Our new database on labour market statistics by type of household (people living alone, with a partner, with kids, etc.) is available in ILOSTAT! We finally have data to see how gendered social norms and stereotypical gender roles still shape our economic decisions. #WomenCount
As the #COVID19 pandemic continues to keep us indoors, mothers are taking on most of the domestic & child care responsibilities.
Our new report w/ @ilo looks at the distribution of unpaid domestic & care work within various types of households. 👇

During these difficult pandemic times, safety and health at work takes on a whole new meaning, but resources are needed to ensure it. https://t.co/PexekfsQl2
@fernandadutra@fracarpro Both "developing" and "emerging" are vague and subjective. They are often used to design a heterogenous group of countries, many of which are developed and have emerged by key socioeconomic measures. I try to use clearer categories such as income group.
A quick glance at ILO data reveals a worrying fact: glass ceilings, glass walls and sticky floors still exist, perpetuating gender stereotypes in the labour market.

Centuries of discrimination, patriarchy & misogyny have created a gender power gap in our economies, political systems and social & cultural frameworks.
On #WomensDay, I call on everyone - men and women alike - to join the fight for gender equality. https://t.co/mDTXEhAWXp
Sunday's #InternationalWomensDay is an opportunity to
☑️ challenge gender norms,
☑️ empower each other,
☑️ celebrate diversity,
☑️ break stereotypes,
☑️ mobilize and take action.

Gendered social norms continue to shape households' decisions about childcare and the labour market. It's time we base our economic and life decisions on something other than gender stereotypes.

Based on data for 114 countries, we know that more than 935 million workers in the world have jobs that don’t match their educational level: 72% of them are under-educated for their jobs while the remaining 28% are over-educated.
