Norway's national team has already been invited to meet the King of Norway. Not to be criticised, but to be thanked and honoured for what they achieved. The team lands back in Oslo on Monday morning, where the whole country will be waiting to welcome them home. They may be out of the World Cup, but they return as heroes!

It was the middle of the night, at about 1.30am, when Norway lost to England.

Yet thousands of Norwegians went to the Palace in Oslo and celebrated with one final Viking row.

They did not riot. They did not burn cars. They did not smash bus stops or glass windows of shops.

They smiled. The laughed. They saw the positive in their performance. They celebrated their heritage. They were proud of who they have been in the past and who they are today.

Norway might be out of the World Cup 2026 but they are in our hearts.

In the last three weeks, I think we have all fallen a little bit in love with Norwegians.

美国就是在战火硝烟、错误不断、遍体鳞伤乃至头破血流中一路走到了250年这个历程碑。《美丽的美利坚》America the Beautiful赞美了辽阔大地的壮丽，表达了民族精神的希冀，最重要的是突出了基于虔诚的谦卑：愿上帝修补每一处裂痕，让灵魂在自律中升华。歌手是11次格莱美奖得主、民谣和乡村歌手Brandi Carlile。

一支笔救我家两代人
我在1985-1988年间在普林斯顿大学念书，毛的神话已经开始破产。我在美国看到的是资本主义的成功，又从书本中对资本主义的理论有所了解。特别是研究了台湾的经验后，深信只有资本主义才能救中国。一九八九年我写了一篇题为《台湾是对的》评论（So Taiwan was right all along），在《华尔街日报》刊登。不久，我接到一个电话，是《华尔街日报》评论版总编辑白德理（Robert Bartley）先生打来的。他请我参加一个座谈会，讨论中国的局势。当时北京天安门广场的民主运动正如火如荼。最后，解放军的坦克开进广场，酿成举世震惊的六四大屠杀。 我父亲李洪林支持民主运动，因此六四以后被中共秘密逮捕。父亲突然被捕，全家人非常担忧。在一个法律不公正的极权社会，家人只能默默的为父亲祈祷，一点办法都没有。全家只有我在美国。我当时想，必须把父亲非法被捕的事情公布出来，中共受到舆论的压力，就不会折磨父亲。我马上想到白德理先生，赶紧告诉他这个消息。白德理立刻让《华尔街日报》的资深编辑萝赛特女士（Claudia Rosett）就我父亲被捕一事采访我。很快，《华尔街日报》登了六四事件中被捕的几位著名知识分子的特写，题为《消失在中国的古拉格》（Lost in China's Gulag）。父亲的相片也登了出来。《华尔街日报》的报道影响很大。中共对父亲的关押条件也不得不改善。十个月后，在国际压力下，中共释放了我父亲。
十二年后，2001年我从香港去深圳，在罗湖关口被中共秘密逮捕，罪名是「危害国家安全」。《华尔街日报》又为我被非法逮捕大声疾呼。其中有一篇文章是萝赛特女士写的，题目为《第二十五个人质》（The 25th Hostage）（当时中美撞机，中国扣留了二十四名美国机组人员）。五个月后，在美国和国际舆论的谴责下，中共释放了我。
英文有句谚语：「笔的威力大于剑」（The pen is mightier than the sword）。白德理和他在《华尔街日报》同仁的笔，比中共的坦克更有威力。这支笔，救了我家的两代人。
当然，美国政府也不遗余力的拯救我。美国国会的参议院和众议院都通过决议，要求中共释放我。美国总统布什亲自干预，并给我的女儿回信，承诺帮助我。普林斯顿大学校长、还有我太太所在的罗格斯大学（Rutgers）校长给中共写信，要求放人。
我获得自由后，飞到美国，在旧金山机场落地。受到很多人和记者的迎接。从记者群里走来一个人和我打招呼，那正是罗赛特女士！面对镜头，我说我能获得自由，首先要感谢我的国家。
立刻中国小粉红攻击我，他们说你的国家是哪个国家？！
我的国家当然是美国。
我在1995年入籍美国，这是一个下意识的选择，并不是为了方便。人无法选择他的出生地，但是一旦有选择入籍一个国家，我就要选择一个有人权、法治、民主、和保护自由的国家。
没有人愿意背井离乡。毛泽东和中共政治上压制人权，剥夺自由，经济上把中国破坏得很厉害。所以在1980年代，中国有很多人都希望离开。如果一个人要背井离乡到一个新的国家居住，那么美国无疑是首选。
这不仅因为美国强大，而且它最开放容纳。在我几十年的亲身经历中，美国是我所见过、也是我认为最能够接纳移民、最少因为出身而歧视人的国家。
当然，美国并不是一个十全十美的国家，但它拥有纠错的制度，使得它能一次又一次走出了危机。
一旦选择了美国作为我的国家，我当然希望美国强大。我也尽我的努力维护美国。
