I am very sorry to hear of the death of Oyo Nyimba, the late Omukama of Tooro.
He spent much of his short life growing into the leadership of his kingdom. He was crowned in 1995 after his father's death. He was 3 years old.
Here's a clip of his coronation. Courtesy @Reuters.
This paragraph by Haruki Murakami hits very hard:
“Once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
My mum brought food to me every weekend for years in university. There were no cellphones then. I just waited until she showed up and most times I was already hungry and broke.
One weekend at the end of the month when I was completely dry, I waited and she hadn’t shown up by afternoon and I used to live off campus and far from school. I decided to start walking to the campus to see who I could beg for a loan.
As I came out of my road and into a long stretch to campus, I saw my mum walking towards me with a cooler of food on her head. Her car had broken down and she still found a way to come to me even if it meant walking towards my place.
I still have that image in my head and I am grateful to her for it and every thing else including making sure my business started by helping me off my feet.
My father also did the same thing once when I was out of school and running a business but was in difficulty. His own car was broken too and showed up on a the back of a commercial bike (which were now more common) to bring me foodstuff unsolicited and unplanned. He saved my life then too. He didn’t just stop there, he took me to people who could revive my business at their homes when his car was back working. Someone he helped 20 years earlier finally gave me a break that helped me get our first office and paid rent for a decade.
Parents are the real superheroes.
Highly recommend letting people know you’re capable of madness from time to time. Especially as a quiet, soft spoken person. Disrespect sometimes needs to be met with disrespect.. let people know you can go from 0- Thanos real quick…
🚨UPDATE: On Wednesday 14/01/2026 when the internet was shut down, Former minister of Education Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire was announced dead.
She was minister of education from 1979 to 1980 and again from 2005 to 2011. She also served as the member of parliament representing Mpigi District women in the Ugandan Parliament from 2001 to 2011.
During Social Studies (SST) exams/tests they used to ask "Who is the current minister of Education and sports" and we all rushed to answer Hon.Geradine Namirembe Bitamazire. Something which made her popular among students and pupils countrywide.
Despite not being able to meet her in person during her tenure, ministry of education was functional, she actually used to send officials unexpectedly to inspect on the performance of head teachers and teachers.
I join the family, friends and the nation in mourning her death.
Namirembe Bitamazire will always be remembered and celebrated as a stateswoman who served her country with integrity.
Rest in peace Namirembe Bitamazire
Lately, I've been including this in my prayer: "If I'm not meant to have it, Lord, please remove the desire from my heart to want it, and help me find peace in its absence."
