A great moment today as Dr Maudling's year12 biologists surprised him with a Happy Hagfish Day card. Dr Maudling gave a whole-school assembly on Monday about his love of marine biology. A lovely gesture @RHS6thform#HagfishDay@RedmaidsHigh
On Friday, @RedmaidsHigh hosted the fantastic Singing Children of Africa choir. Here are some of the children with our students in @RHSchoolScience making origami hearts together exchanging knowledge and ideas.
Our senior science club for years 10 and 11 have been investigating batteries to understand why so much research is being carried out in this area @RedmaidsHigh#sustainability#RHScienceClubs
Although the clouds were against us for taking images with our big telescope, the Redmaids Astronomical Society managed some great long exposures on mobile phones. #RHSAstroNights@RedmaidsHigh@RHS6thform#HarvestMoon
Weโve had a fun-filled activities week with year8 testing bubble mixtures; seeing if toast always lands butter-side down and building boats to hold the most mass @RedmaidsHigh#RHSactivitiesweek#mythbusters
Our year groups studying pressure and the solar system have enjoyed using our air-powered paper rocket launcher. Some great designs from year10 today @RedmaidsHigh@CLEAPSS GL403 for build instructions.
Today was the day our junior science club had been eagerly awaiting: butterfly release day! Weโve been watching our butterflies develop over several weeks and it was great to see them take flight @RedmaidsHigh#RHScienceClubs
Our year12 @RHS6thform A-level biologists are back from their field trip to Braunton Burrows @NDevonBiosphere where they looked at the distribution of organisms. A fabulous hands-on experience in a magnificent landscape @RedmaidsHigh#OutdoorClassroom
More splendid Space learning in Year7: this time using our outdoor space to make a model of our Solar System and understand the vast distances between some planets @RedmaidsHigh#OutdoorClassroom
Our junior science club made some splendid bug hotels this week #RHScienceClubs We're looking forward to seeing our butterflies emerge soon too @RedmaidsHigh
Before half term, Year 5 visited the Forest of Dean. Ready with clipboards and wellies, they undertook fieldwork activities from analysing the substrate, to measuring the flow rate and the depth from one side to the other. They finished the day with a splash in the water!
Year7 brought in some incredible models of the Solar System that they had made over half term. These are just a few from Mr Frohlich's class. We were blown away by all the effort, everything from bread and cookies to pom poms and hula hoops! @RedmaidsHigh
Our year8s thoroughly enjoyed making rainbow fizz this week at our junior science club. We had great fun testing different volumes and combinations to make the best rainbow possible in a test tube @RedmaidsHigh
Our latest #RHSAstroNight brought so many people together to enjoy wonderful views of the Moon and indoor activities to investigate telescope optics and constellations. Thanks to our @RHS6thform helpers! A fantastic evening @RedmaidsHigh
If your child has been talking about โchromosome socksโ recently, here they are! This is our year12 biologists revising mitosis with Dr Maudling. The stripey socks are chromosomes and we discussed what happens at each point of the cell division process @RedmaidsHigh
A huge thank you to Bath Uni Dept of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering for hosting our year12s as part of their gold @industrialcadet project. It was a wonderful opportunity to see a uni lab and research techniques in action @bathenganddes@UniofBath@RedmaidsHigh@RHS6thform
Dr Maudling led a fascinating dissection club today on starfish. He told us some great stories from his time as a marine biologist and took our understanding of starfish to a whole new level. Thank you so much Dr Maudling! @RedmaidsHigh#RHScienceClubs
