@scottiebateman Those people on the stairwell are extremely lucky. This pilot was hot dogging flying less than 50’ from a hotel a few minutes prior to the crash. Luckily the tail rotor didn’t fail while he was endangering those people’s lives. FAA should pull his certificate.
@OneMileataTime Premium economy on this route is the right product. I love those 321Ts only when I can justify the $$$ for business class, which is almost never. So I started flying Delta for that reason. I’m glad I can go back to AA on this route soon.
Just. Wow. As we went over Mexico and the U.S. this morning, I caught this sprite.
Sprites are TLEs or Transient Luminous Events, that happen above the clouds and are triggered by intense electrical activity in the thunderstorms below. We have a great view above the clouds, so scientists can use these types of pictures to better understand the formation, characteristics, and relationship of TLEs to thunderstorms.
New CCTV footage emerges of the Air India 787 as it took off from Ahmedabad. It also appears to show smoke (or dust) as the aircraft lifted off from the runway.
There have been many runway overruns over the years and many survived. Most notably were 2 Southwest Airlines incidents at KBUR - Burbank, CA.
The first one was Southwest Airlines Flight 1455 in March, 2000 when the aircraft landed to fast, they plowed through the perimeter fence and came to rest at a gas station and it’s a miracle there were no fatalities.
The Burbank airport installed an Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) which uses crushable material placed at the end of a runway to help stop an aircraft that overruns the runway end.
18 years later on December 6th, 2018, the installed EMAS stopped Southwest Airlines Flight 278 that landed fast at Burbank. All 112 passengers and 5 crew were unharmed and disembarked via stairs.
I just wanted to show people who aren’t familiar with such designs that changes are usually made after aviation accidents and the aviation is industry continually trying to make air travel safer.
My photo of the EMAS installed at KORH - Worcester, Massachusetts which the locals pronounce, “Wisstuh” 😂
