It's Public Works Snow Day! While we hope the snow stays away for a bit longer, our Public Works team began training today and will be ready when the first flake falls. Be sure to give snow plows extra room on the road today and during winter weather! ❄️
Public Works crews have started restoring the grass at Harmony Park today. We ask that you please stay off of the grass while it is re-established and repairs are made to the irrigation system. Signs will be removed when the process is complete.
JUST IN: President Biden jokes about how hot the ground is in Maui after a fire ripped through, killing hundreds.
“You guys catch the boots out here? That’s a hot ground, man,” he joked.
Despite media reports of roughly 100 deaths from the fires, locals estimate that at least 480 people were killed.
“I know there are at least 480 dead here in Maui and I don't understand why they're [the authorities] not saying that,” said one local.
850 people are still missing.
A note to the Class of 2027:
We have one request as you start your incredible journey as a Hawkeye: take a moment and reflect on the people who got you here. Your loved ones. Your cheerleaders. The ones who remember your first steps and put your needs above their own day after day and year after year. Remember how they held you when you were hurting and encouraged you when you were struggling.
Embrace your life as a Hawkeye, yes. But don’t forget those who continuously love you with all that they are, and who have helped you make it to this point. Call and say that you love them. Express thankfulness. Let them hold you just a few seconds longer. Squeeze them extra tight as you say goodbye. Because we know— you need it just as much as they do.
