Museum dedicated to preserving the Sons of Jacob synagogue and transforming it into a vibrant cultural center in the heart of Providence's historic Smith Hill.
A very eclectic crowd ignored the snow flurries on March 1, 2026 and gathered to hear awesome energetic speakers: Maria Friedman & Ken Schneider of RICI, Rabbi Laufer of Chabad and Shelley Parness of RIJM. Those present were “AHAH-ED” with the tour of the Synagogue.

A sophomore History major at Brown University, toured Sons of Jacob/Rhode Island Jewish Museum.
Four weeks later on December 12th, he shared this blessed heartstopping 103 year young rooftop photo on his way home and shared it with me.
The RI Jewish Museum proudly shares the welcoming of our more secure new front door thanks to the generous donor who learned of his great grandfather’s connection as the first president of the synagogue. Contact Shelley if you want to honor someone.
We are pleased to announce that the surrounding yard and parking lot has been cleared and manicured to accommodate those who plan to attend services on the High Holidays.
As the High Holidays approaches, we want to thank the City of Providence landscaping team for cleaning the property in front of our Historical Monument.
Rhode Island Jewish Museum hosted 15 Students with PC Professor Carmine Perrotti to explore how the historical artifacts housed at 24 Douglas Avenue can impact the inclusion of the Arts with the Smith Hill Community. Students were led on a tour narrated by Zo Baker, curator.
