A major drug trafficking attempt was foiled in Nakuru after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) intercepted a vehicle ferrying a large consignment of cannabis valued at approximately Sh4.62 million.

Acting on a credible tip-off that a suspicious motor vehicle, registration number KDX 264K, was being used to transport the illicit cargo, detectives laid an ambush along the busy Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

Moments later, the target vehicle came into view. Officers signalled the driver to stop, but instead of complying, he floored the accelerator and attempted a daring escape, triggering a high-speed pursuit towards Subukia area.

In a swift and tactical response, detectives successfully immobilised the vehicle by deflating its front tyre, forcing it to a stop and bringing the dramatic chase to an abrupt end.

Two suspects, David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were immediately arrested at the scene.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered seven bulky sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 154 kilograms, carefully concealed for transport.

The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.

The National Workshop on Data Analytics for Madagascar Customs 🇲🇬 (8 to 12 June 2026)

The WCO, under the BACUDA Project and with the support of the Customs Cooperation Fund of Korea (CCF-Korea), successfully conducted a National Workshop on Data Analytics for Madagascar Customs in Antananarivo. Delivered through a blended learning approach under the WCO's capacity building paradigm, combining pre-workshop e-learning courses with a five-day on-site workshop, the programme strengthened the capacity of 18 officials from Madagascar Customs in data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and evidence-based decision-making.

The workshop combined theoretical frameworks with hands-on technical training across three core thematic areas: data analytics infrastructure and governance, practical application of the WCO AI-HS and LITE DATE algorithms for HS classification prediction and fraud detection, and institutional readiness assessment using the WCO AI/ML Readiness Self-Assessment Tool.

A key outcome was strategic recommendations to help Madagascar Customs translate its institutional readiness assessment into a time-bound AI implementation roadmap aligned with short-, medium-, and long-term modernization and digital transformation goals.

SUSPECTED DRUG TRAFFICKER ARRESTED, LARGE HAUL OF SUSPECTED CANNABIS RECOVERED

A joint team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations' (DCI) Transnational Organized Crime Unit and Anti-Narcotics Unit, working with officers from Mutarakwa Police Post, has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis sativa.

Acting on credible intelligence, the officers conducted a sting operation along the Mai Mahiu–Nairobi Road at Mutarakwa Trading Centre in Limuru Sub-County. They intercepted a dark blue Toyota Crown vehicle, registration number KCZ 797W, suspected of transporting narcotics.

The driver, Brian Thomas Wachika, was arrested on the spot. A quick search of the vehicle revealed four-and-a-half sacks containing green plant material believed to be cannabis sativa whose estimated street value is yet to be determined. A second occupant in the vehicle fled the scene; efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transported to DCI Headquarters for further processing and documentation. He is expected to be arraigned in court.

The DCI reaffirms its commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks and drug trafficking syndicates to ensure a safer Kenya for all.

#sapsLIM Police in Limpopo intensified crime prevention through #OperationShanela2, resulting in the arrest of 27 suspects, including a suspect found with dagga worth over R2 million in the Hoedspruit policing area on Friday, 13/03.

During the day operation, a 38-year-old foreign national was arrested in the Hoedspruit CBD while driving a white Toyota Hilux 4x4. Police found 22 sack bags of Swaziland dagga with an estimated street value of over R2 million and confiscated the drugs.

During the night operation in The Oaks area, 18 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act, while eight motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol along the D21 road.

All suspects are expected to appear before the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court on, 16/03.

A foreign national has been nabbed with cocaine valued at over half a million rand in Umbilo.

Members from the Metro Police Tactical Support Unit, Metro Police Task Team and SAPS KZN Counter Narcotics intercepted the 27-year-old Nigerian man as he got out of his car earlier today.

They were executing a search warrant.

The suspect was allegedly found with pure cocaine, hidden in a sock.

When his flat was subsequently searched, more drugs were found - valued at close to R600-thousand.

Interestingly, the same man was arrested in 2025 over R400-thousand in cocaine.

The latest operation is part of an ongoing investigation into a major syndicate - with Nigerian links - involved in trafficking, manufacturing, storing and selling narcotics.

Several other suspects have already been arrested for their roles in the drug network.

The suspects were stopped along the N6 from Queenstown to Bloemfontein, and several boxes of counterfeit liquor worth an estimated R105,000 were seized. They are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

SUSPECT ARRESTED, CANNABIS WORTH KSHS. 8.1 MILLION SEIZED

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in the Rift Valley Region have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered a large consignment of cannabis following a dramatic pursuit along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

The incident occurred on March 14, 2026, when officers on routine patrol flagged down a blue Toyota Voxy, registration number KCS 496B, after it aroused suspicion. The driver defied orders to stop and sped off, prompting a high-speed chase towards the Kaptembwa area.

During the pursuit, detectives deflated the vehicle’s right front tyre. Despite the damage, the suspect continued driving towards the 140 Area before abandoning the vehicle in a vacant plot near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempting to flee.

The driver, identified as David Muraya, 35, was swiftly cornered and arrested by the pursuing officers.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of thirteen sacks containing dry green plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 272 kilograms and valued at about Kshs. 8,160,000.

The suspect remains in police custody pending arraignment in court on Monday, March 16, 2026.

KENYA-BOUND TANZANIA BUS INTERCEPTED WITH SH2.5M CANNABIS CARGO

A multi-agency team, drawn from the Anti-Narcotic Unit (ANU), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and the Police Dog Unit, have brought a cross-border drug run to an abrupt halt after intercepting a Kenya-bound bus from Tanzania loaded with cannabis cargo valued at approximately KES 2,520,000.

The bus, registration no. T372 DWL, operating under Kidia One Express, was flagged down at the Namanga one-stop border post for what its crew thought was a routine roadside check. Little did they know that the law was already sniffing trouble. Highly trained sniffer dogs quickly went to work, nose-deep in business, and homed in on suspicious packages hidden at the bus’s fuel chamber.

The officers recovered four tightly wrapped bundles containing 84 packets of cannabis, weighing 84 kilograms.

The driver, 37-year-old George Ngoba, and his 25-year-old conductor, Trisha Lucas, both Tanzanian nationals, were arrested on the spot.

The duo is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the bus and the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.

SIX IRANIAN NATIONALS ARRAIGNED IN SH8.2 BILLION METH TRAFFICKING CASE

Six Iranian nationals have been arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa for their involvement in the trafficking of a massive consignment of methamphetamine valued at approximately Sh8.2 billion.

The accused are linked to the seizure of 1,036.044 kilograms of methamphetamine, intercepted in October 2025 during a high-stakes multi-agency maritime operation off the Kenyan coast. Security officers intercepted a stateless dhow in the Indian Ocean, leading to the arrest of the six: Nia Jasem Darzadeh, Jadgal Nadeem Abdulgani, Baloch Hassan, Baloch Imran Mustafa, Baksh Rahim Goharam, and Daryayi Imtiyaz, aka Pamin, onboard.

The charges were formally read after the conclusion of a Miscellaneous Application that had earlier been filed seeking custodial orders. All six accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court ordered that the suspects be remanded at Shimo La Tewa GK Prison pending the reading of facts, scheduled for January 30, 2026.

OPERATION AGAINST ILLICIT DRUGS CONTINUES IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY

Police officers from Lumakanda Police Station in Kakamega County, acting on information received from the public, earlier today intercepted a motor vehicle suspected of transporting cannabis sativa.

The officers laid a strategic ambush along the Webuye–Eldoret Highway, leading to the interception of the vehicle, which was travelling from Busia towards Eldoret.

Following a search, two bales were recovered from the vehicle. Each bale weighed approximately 10 kilograms and contained a dry plant material suspected to be cannabis (bhang).

The driver was immediately arrested and the vehicle impounded as investigations continue.

This operation underscores the critical role of public cooperation and close collaboration with law enforcement in the fight against drug trafficking.
