"I like what it does for my mind. If I've had a bad day, if I'm feeling stressed out, if I'm feeling overwhelmed, it takes it all away.
It's my antidote for everything. If I feel any sort of emotional upheaval, I go for a jog and I feel better." — Kelly Ripa
I feel this!
Running got me through a lot in life early on. Now, now it helps keep things calm, and I like that.

Well forgot the pic this morning, but @sgtmajcauley and I ran 5.2 very humid and warm miles where I needed a walk break to replenish some O2. We had a fun week with a couple rounds of golf and even a rainbow! Heading to an outdoor concert tonight Y’all enjoy these Summer days!

Marathon training, racing…
Neither are easy if done right. But it can be fun!
In my time I’ve ran 3 road marathons. Yeah, only 3. lol Trails are life, so the road had no business being a part of it. Until one day I realized how running roads benefited my trail running (and visa/versa).
My first was NYC Marathon (3:15), a few weeks after my first mountain 100 miler where I finished with 2 severe high ankle sprains. Around mile 5, the ankles started swelling and hurting. Weeeeeeeeee!
My 2nd was Big Sur marathon (3:13), which I feel is best suited for trail runners, having 1600+ ft of climb and amazing views. I had been injured (bad ankle roll on trails lol) and had no marathon specific training. But the training I did was what I still do to this day, hill strides. (They are money in the bank!)
My 3rd marathon was our local Boise Marathon (3:00:00.82), where the 1st half of the race had high cross winds and the 2nd half was straight into 25 mph winds. As if marathons aren’t hard enough as it is! Lol I trained my a$$ off for this race. However a month prior I did pace a friend for 62 miles of a mountain 100 miler! Haha
Big Sur had got my qualifier for Boston, but I knew if I trained that I could get in with all the fasties, which is why I trained for the Boise Marathon, and goal 1 achieved, even though I didn’t dip under 3 hours, without the wind I would have dipped well under.
Peak week for Boston… race cancelled. I was in phenomenal shape, but was spent. If I’m being honest, I was kind of glad as I really didn’t feel like training that week, so I pulled back and went to trails for a reset. Since, I haven’t done any road racing, although I still throw in pavement pounding and speed work.
With everything I do with running, properly training for a marathon is probably the most brutal but rewarding thing you can do. Or, it was for me. But I train a little different than most. For me, train harder than the race. Putting myself in tough positions in training, and pushing through. It gives added confidence on race day. You’ve done the work. You’ve wanted to quit and just give up, but you didn’t. You pushed, conquered and man, that feeling of accomplishment, it drives me!

Nice easy run this morning. There is a hint of wildfire smoke in the air. Guess summer has finally arrived.
Since Olly is afraid of cows, we turned around when we encountered a herd sleeping on the trail. Lol
Olly had fun flushing birds all morning though, and running through the tall green grass. I think he likes how it tickles his belly.
Have a great day friends!

Sad to report that I have injured my goats on todays run (think today, just noticed it).
290 miles on them. And haven’t even had a chance to try them in the Idaho back country yet! Sad..
Anyone else have blowout issues with their @hoka shoes?
