Great story on the city audit of the Trust Fund and the compromise that's been reached on the new ordinance for funding the Trust Fund. Thanks @DeanMirshahi for speaking to the role of @RISCjustice!
🚨 The problem with Mayor Avula’s proposed Housing Trust Fund ordinance is that it gives the Mayor — and every future Mayor — the power to lower or even eliminate funding for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
💥 Crisis demands commitment. 💥Richmond needs real, guaranteed funding for affordable housing — not another system that allows leaders to walk away when it gets inconvenient.
And let’s be honest, Richmond: Isn’t that exactly what we already have? ➡️ ZERO funding to the Trust Fund for the last FIVE YEARS.
That’s not a solution. That’s how we got here.
A housing crisis doesn’t call for escape clauses. It doesn’t call for discretion.
💥 Crisis Demands Commitment. 💥
Tonight, 20 committed RISC members SHOWED UP — despite bitter cold and wild traffic — to deliver a clear, powerful message:
👉 A crisis doesn’t call for half-measures. It calls for REAL commitment.
Thank you to Councilmembers Robertson, Gibson and Newbille for their leadership on this effort - theirs is the kinds of leadership Richmond residents need.

We are calling on City Council to pass Ordinance 2026-018. Our city deserves more than flimsy promises and discretionary maybes. Crisis demands COMMITMENT.
Richmond families are watching. We showed up — now it’s time for City Council to do the same.
📣 Pass Ordinance 2026-018.
