In a shop today, my son took an item straight out of a lady’s hands he loves packing shelves, so it made sense to him.
I held my breath… but she laughed and said maybe she shouldn’t buy it anyway.
Calm, kind, understanding. That moment stuck with me. #autism#family
Our son’s story is full of laughter, challenges, and the small moments that truly matter. We’re sharing his journey to spread awareness of autism, and we’d love for you to join us on X and Substack. Even a simple like or share can help others understand and support kids like him.
Went for takeaway—my son was excited, stimming and happy.
Then he saw the aircon leaking. Covered his ears: “It’s an emergency.” Got upset.
I picked him up, told him it’s okay. He calmed down.
Food came—over the moon again.
Safe space + a little distraction goes a long way.
My autistic son and our Boston terrier have a thing chasing each other around like tiny tornadoes. He laughs so hard we almost have to hit “pause.”

My son will watch the same YouTube clip over and over… sometimes just the first 2 seconds.
I know it looks weird to some people, but it actually helps him. It’s his way of calming down and feeling okay.
So yeah, I let him do it. I’m not here to fight it.

Still processing today… being told my child needs to be quieter to fit in doesn’t sit right with me. Some kids experience the world differently—and that should be met with understanding, not silence.
I’m frustrated.
We’ve given our time and heart expecting spiritual growth, guidance, support.
Now we’re told we must keep our son “in check” so we don’t disturb others.
I thought church was supposed to help, not force us to shrink our family to fit in.
It’s not worth it.
My son asked for space.
Another child wouldn’t stop.
He pushed him away — and now he’s the problem.
And the church wants him to change.
To be quiet. To be separate. To be “manageable.”
No.
I won’t change my child to make others comfortable.
I won’t put a church before him.
One of my son’s safest places isn’t his bed… it’s right behind my back.
Every night he curls in close, like that’s where the world finally feels okay. My wife is stretched out, sleeping peacefully… and I’m hanging off the edge of the bed like a cliffhanger
Wouldn’t change it
