I think Burnham should pick just one nationalisation straight off the back when he becomes PM and it should be water. He’d get a big poll boost, and can then promise more to follow after next GE. Also gives him time to plan to raise the money if more need to be nationalised.
At the moment, we’re broke, so even water will be difficult.
Peter Brook’s early work captures the industrial heritage of the West Riding, much of which was to disappear in the 1960’s. In ‘Washing on a Terraced Street, Sowerby Bridge’ the lines of laundry bring a splash of colour to an otherwise gloomy prospect. (Sold by Bonhams in 2009)
@soppystern Nothing says support for free speech quite like demanding that protestors are expelled from their university, and then arrested by the police.
@Joeystrick46271 It's not comparable for many reasons. Not least due to the disparity in power between a major European nation, and a religious fundamentalist organisation among refugees.
And if a democratic state behaves like a fascist regime, it's obvious that somebody will liken them.
Comparing anything/everything to the Nazis is hackneyed and provocative - but it's difficult to see why making that comparison is beyond the pale, while excusing genocide is acceptable.

‘You would compare what’s happening in Gaza to the Holocaust?’
@Lewis_Goodall rejects Hasan Piker's ‘crass and offensive’ comments comparing Jews to Nazis.
My friends straight friend joined for pride yesterday and he said “I never felt such an accepting place before, everyone is SO happy, the drag queens looks awesome. Pride is amazing” and thats exactly WHY this shouldn’t even be a discussion in the first place
@Hohounk He's pretending that several young people died because the police were too afraid of being called racist to intervene, which is complete nonsense.
Pseudo-respectable figures like Trevor Phillips exploiting this incident to promote the same talking points as the far-right is how the latter become legitimised.

Sky's @TrevorPTweets, a former head of the Commission for Racial Equality, says he feel "rage" because the Henry Nowak case is one of many examples of "misjudgements about people based on their race leading to a young life being cut short."
He shares three other examples ⬇️
If you aren’t ready to potentially have a disabled child then you’re not ready for parenthood. Your child could become disabled at any period in their life.
People should ask themselves
- how many Christians rioted over The Life Of Brian?
-How many people had to go into hiding?
-How many people involved were slaughtered by disgruntled Anglicana?
Instead, the most extreme response... called for it to be banned.
Not quite the same.
It doesn't do that, anymore than Judaism or Christianity do. Adherents of religion have a choice in the matter, because theology is open to interpretation.
There's no difference between homophobia, transphobia, and Islamophobia, however.

Islam compels it's followers to believe homosexuality is a mortal sin, but also their religious freedoms means homosexuals are unable to criticise this without committing the sin of Islamophobia.
Disabled people do have to contact venues in advance in order to check accessibility.
Speaking from personal experience: a) many people don't do that, and it can create significant problems b) venues aren't always responsive.

everyone saying that you should contact the venue or get a doctors note....have you considered that disabled people shouldnt HAVE to do stuff like this simply to attend a concert???
The mad bastards.
The hospital I work in has to put out buckets when it rains. The last one just had their new building pushed back by a decade. This is colosally stupid.
It was Rob Kenyon's lewd comments about Carol Vorderman, and his political views in general, which people object to, of course - despite these very pathetic attempts at playing the victim.

The left.
Rob Kenyon is “inarticulate and uneducated”.
Also the left.
“Angela Rayner could be the next prime minister!”
The left.
“It’s great that Hannah Spencer is a plumber!”
Also the left.
“Rob Kenyon is JUST a plumber!”
I’m sick and tired of their hypocrisy.
