I am happy that, in coach Fernando Da Cruz, we have a coach with experience working with youngsters.

But, a settled senior team environment with quality players is more important if we want our young players to reach the next level. I'm a huge believer in our development players because I can see the talent and potential that's there.

But constantly promoting youngsters while surrounding them with average senior players is a dangerous approach. Instead of experienced players carrying the responsibility and guiding the next generation, the youngsters end up carrying players who should be leading them. That is how promising careers are disrupted.

Mdu Shabalala doesn't get the applause he deserves for being Kaizer Chiefs most creative player in the last 2 years because the team is not winning anything and not even playing good football.

Young players are naturally inconsistent and will make mistakes. That's why every successful team has experienced, high-level senior players who can absorb pressure, maintain standards, and allow youngsters to develop without the burden of carrying results every week. That's the opposite at Kaizer Chiefs, which is why we can't keep asking for most of our young boys to come to the 1st team, though some deserve to.

The youngsters should complement the core of the team, not become the core itself if the objective is to compete for trophies. We are a big team, at least our history says so.

We've already seen what happens when the environment isn't right. Players like Vilakazi and Mdu have often faced harsh and unfair criticism, not because they lack talent, or correct application, but because the senior players around them have failed to consistently perform their roles. As a result, the youngsters are expected to compensate for those shortcomings, and their development suffers. They can't make mistakes anymore because they are going to be written off immediately. Mistakes of senior players are protected more than the youngsters, these boys are expected to be twice as good as the seniors who get paid a lot of money with very little value added to the team.

If we truly believe in our academy, then we must also create the right first-team environment for those players to succeed. Kaizer Chiefs management must stop seeing promotion to 1st team as success, it's about protecting their growth and helping them reach their full potential.
