The thing is, players like Ben Stokes are simply irreplaceable. We all know the significant impact he makes whenever he plays. As a bowler, he was just as effective as any other frontline bowler in the series, and as a batter, he scored a century. So, when someone like him isn't in the team, his absence is bound to leave a significant void.
The series between India and England has shown how riveting Test cricket can be. It has so much to offer. The format can be the most enthralling when two evenly matched teams compete.
Both teams fought tooth and nail throughout the series, giving fans a contest they will remember forever. However, apart from the players who gave their all, one more thing made this series remarkable — the English cricket fans.
They turned out in numbers and made the atmosphere even more electric. Their passion for the format warms my heart. Can’t wait for the two teams to lock horns again in Tests in England!
@Shebas_10dulkar This is an incredible list to be a part of—players like Sachin and Kohli. Hopefully, Gill will also go on to achieve things like these two greats.
India last won a Test series in England in 2007. Since then, we’ve sent several star-studded squads to English shores but have failed to win a series. We couldn’t win this time either, but this drawn series feels like a victory.
A team that was written off by most has proved several "experts" wrong. Despite missing many key players, despite having an inexperienced captain, and despite the toss not going their way in any match, what they’ve achieved is remarkable.
From Gill, Rahul, Pant, Jaiswal, Jadeja to Siraj, Sundar, Bumrah, Krishna almost everyone contributed. This was a complete team effort. This team has the potential to do wonders in the future.
@CricCrazyJohns This is a big blow. India need to play a bit sensibly here, can't afford to lose wickets in clusters. They did brilliantly in the first session, need to build on that.
@mufaddal_vohra Absolutely unexpected but brilliant for India! It's great to see Jaiswal scoring quickly, but even more satisfying is Akashdeep's valuable contribution with the bat. India need their bowlers to contribute with runs
With Rishabh Pant unavailable, India need Yashasvi Jaiswal to step up — and he started on a positive note yesterday. Like Pant, he enjoys playing his shots and has the ability to take the game away from the opposition quickly.
It's the third day of the Test, traditionally the best for batting. The sun is out, he’s well set, and England are without Woakes. Can Jaiswal end this tour on a high?
@mufaddal_vohra Feel sad for Woakes. He worked so hard throughout the series but ended it on an unfortunate note. However, as far as the Ashes in Australia is concerned, he hasn’t been very effective there, so I don't think it will matter much
One of the best performances ever by an Indian opener in England. If India has performed so well in the series with the bat, KL Rahul has played an instrumental role in that. Apart from scoring runs, an opener's primary job is to protect the middle order from the new ball, and that's what Rahul has done to perfection.
@CricCrazyJohns The Indian bowlers have done remarkably well to pull things back after England raced to 92 for no loss. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, in particular, were incredible. Now it's up to our batters — can they do their bit? Need Jaiswal and Rahul to give India a solid start
Karun Nair yesterday, and Prasidh Krishna today — two players who have been mercilessly trolled of late — have played key roles in keeping India alive in this match against England. Good for them.
@CricCrazyJohns Collapse, collapse, collapse—I'm fed up with this word. What is our batting coach doing? Our tailenders simply can't bat. From the first Test to now, there's been little to no improvement. I don't expect them to score fifties, but at least they shouldn't be walking wickets
If we look only at the score, we might even say that England are well ahead in the game. However, considering the conditions India were asked to bat in and the position they were in at one point, they’ve done reasonably well to reach 204/6. That said, they’ll need to push the total to at least 250 to give their bowlers a fighting chance.
@CricCrazyJohns A brilliant innings in really tough batting conditions. Without him, India might have collapsed to around 150. This could signal the arrival of Karun Nair 2.0. Really happy for him.
Karun Nair has got another start, and that too on a pitch that's difficult to bat on. Even if he manages to take India to somewhere around 250 and scores a 70, it would be a great effort. But if he fails to make it count again, he'll be kicking himself. Because he may not get any opportunities after this Test.
@CricCrazyJohns India are in trouble! However now Karun Nair has a great opportunity to prove that he belongs at this level. He needs to show his worth.
@CricCrazyJohns It's already challenging to bat in these bowler-friendly conditions, with the ball moving significantly, and you're getting run out chasing a non-existent run! That was unnecessary from Gill.
