The Jewish Council of Australia strongly condemns comments made on the Instagram page of a mosque in western Sydney, threatening ‘Christchurch 2.0’.
This threat is part of a broader trend of Islamophobia and rising far-right extremism and white supremacist organising in Australia which places the safety of all racialised groups at risk.
Sarah Schwartz, Executive Officer, Jewish Council of Australia, said:
‘We condemn the disturbing escalation of Islamophobia in Australia and stand united with the Muslim community at this time. We call on our Government to treat Islamophobia seriously and we condemn politicians who have encouraged or dismissed rising Islamophobia.
'Far-right extremism and white supremacist ideologies in Australia represent a serious threat to all of us. We can’t forget that the Christchurch massacre was carried out by an Australian man and demonstrates the real dangers of home-grown racism. We need to get serious about addressing and preventing violent racism in Australia.’
Dr Max Kaiser, Executive Officer, Jewish Council of Australia, said:
‘The Jewish Council of Australia continues to work with our Muslim and Palestinian allies to organise against Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism and antisemitism together. Our grassroots cooperation strengthens the battle against all forms of racism.’

Chappell Roan calls for labels to give new artists a liveable wage and healthcare during her #GRAMMYs acceptance speech:
“I told myself if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in-front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off artists would offer a liveable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists… labels we got you, but do you got us?”
Remember when I got fired by the ABC 11 months ago for sharing a Human Rights Watch post about Israel using starvation used as a tool of war? This is the sort of gut-wrenching and hollow ‘I told you so’ moment that brings profound sadness and frustration. I wish I wasn’t right.
MEDIA RELEASE: Jewish Council welcomes Australia’s commitment to Palestinian sovereignty
Yesterday, Australia voted with 158 other countries, including the UK and New Zealand, in support of a UN Resolution supporting “permanent sovereignty” of Palestinians over their natural resources in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza and for the population of the occupied Syrian Golan. Canada, the US and Israel were among the countries who voted against the resolution.
The Jewish Council of Australia welcomes this significant shift in Australia’s international policy towards recognising Israel’s unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, as set out in the recent decision of the International Court of Justice.
We echo Foreign Minister Wong’s statement that Israel’s “ongoing settlement activity, land dispossession, demolitions and settler violence against Palestinians” is unlawful and undermines prospects for peace.
Sarah Schwartz, Executive Officer, Jewish Council of Australia:
“Palestinians in the Occupied Territories have been living under the world’s longest illegal military occupation. This has involved land dispossession, violence, home demolitions and the deprivation of rights to natural resources. Australia’s vote is a welcome first step towards acknowledging Palestinian’s fundamental human rights under international law.”
Dr Max Kaiser, Executive Officer, Jewish Council of Australia:
“We hope that this vote signals a shift in Australia’s foreign policy towards refusing to excuse Israel’s overwhelming violence and human rights violations against Palestinians. To ensure we are not complicit in Israel’s human rights abuses, this vote must now be accompanied by a review of all of our political, military and economic ties with Israel.”
Would love to encourage our #WarriorNun community to ditch ‘MySpaceX’ and move the conversation to 💙Sky. Future musings and thoughts will be shared there from this point forward. @simondavisbarry
@jax_214 @ThisOrTheNext @Maple_Jaxon@NunsRunTheWorld one of my schools had houses named after birds. 😂 the birb-ening was foretold. Wildly, I was a corvid (🟢) and not a parrot..
My other school’s houses were named after local historical figures. I was 🟣, and my *ahem* encouraging others into sporting activities started here 😅
Even if Simon spells out every single detail of season 3 ahead of time, I would be desperate to see it on screen. Even if I know exactly what is coming, even with no surprises, it wouldn’t dampen my enthusiasm one bit.

I think Simon and team would’ve hit this out the ballpark, and to see it made to those standards would’ve been amazing too. My heart hurts a little to know what we could have had, beyond what we already do ❤️.

How beautiful this would have been… Ava happy and at peace, loved, having come full circle (after saving the whole world) to find that happiness where she began. This would have been beautiful disability rep, I’m so sorry it didn’t happen. #WarriorNun#SaveWarriorNun
