In celebration of Read Across America Week, MHS welcomed MES students to the high school building today! The young readers had the opportunity to read books to the high school students! We hope the experience stimulates a love of reading with the young students!
How cool is this? Through a partnership with TSSAA we are able to license students as officials for JV sports. Paul, Eli, and Jacob have completed their training to officiate JV middle school soccer games for the upcoming season. @TSSAA
A special thanks to Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Education for funding our new Agriculture Department tractor from Coleman Tractor. The tractor was purchased with Innovative School Models grant money. We will make use of it in all three agriculture pathways!
@JonTrevCo Brilliant post. Accountability only seems to matter for public schools. Show me the graduation rates of online private schools that these vouchers might be used for???
Proud to be recognized as one of the 60 schools (not just high schools, but all schools) in Tennessee with an intentional commitment to civics education. The future of democracy lies within our schools.
I got a sneak peek at tomorrow’s Thanksgiving feast thanks to our cafeteria team.Guess who got to try the dressing a day early?Spoiler:it was me! And let me tell you, it’s not just dressing; it’s a taste of heaven. For some kids this may be their only Thanksgiving meal. #Thankful
2. People clearly misunderstand the ESEA requirements on chronic absenteeism. (My whole dissertation is about this topic) ESEA requires a non-cognitive measure. Chronic absenteeism is not required but some non-cognitive measure is. Perhaps we should rethink our chosen measure.
Reading the public comments about school accountability make two things clear
1. The masses do not want letter grades assigned and/or do not believe accountability measures should change in regards to this years data.
Changing the part isn’t as hard as knowing which part to change. Conducting the intervention is attainable; knowing which intervention to conduct is where expertise and data align.
The MHS Warrior Band received a warm send-off to competition today! Several MHS students, cheerleaders, teachers, staff, and Warrior fans greeted and cheered the band as they drove down Swift Street! Great school culture is something you live.
Today is National Teach Ag Day! We are thankful for our wonderful Ag Teachers at McEwen High School — Mr. Jason Wallace, Ms. Scarlett McClurkan, and Mr. Joe Greene. They make positive impacts on students every day. All three of the MHS Ag Teachers are also MHS graduates!
We are pleased and excited to announce that the overall growth score for MHS (Grades 6-12) is a 4, and the overall growth score for MHS (Grades 9-12) is a 5, the highest possible level. Congratulations to our students and teachers!
This is a great thread, but this point right here is my argument against implementing an A-F model now, after the year is over. We can’t make the rules up after the game is played. You don’t take a test and then after finishing figure out how it will be assessed.
It is dishonest to run a new system on last yr's data + impossible to co-create, vet, document & implement one in 2.5 months. Systems can always be improved. Sometimes it is hard to see exactly how without running them. So why not run it? "Too many "A"s" I was told in '19. 9/10
