Scarcity is an illusion created by corporations. We have a surplus of food; many poor people could easily be fed but are neglected because “they don’t have the right to eat because they didn’t earn it.” It’s an enslaved mindset.
We’ve created borders, territories, and countries to ensure various methods of segregationist survival.
Corporations use the excuse of scarcity as a barrier to enforce classism, letting the poor starve, letting the rich flourish.
Greedy rulers and the rich have zero compassion or empathy for the poor and suffering. They see anyone below a certain financial status as less than human. If they didn't see others as 'lower', they certainly wouldn't let people starve.
The fact is: we have the technology to create mass abundance for all people on earth, be it food, be it clothing, be it housing. Yet investing in poor people doesn't make money.
@NohaAboelataMD@Mssarahmssarah Whoever started the "kids don't really get sick" meme never heard what happened to half of all the kids more than a hundred years ago or so
This wasn't talked about enough. In late August, covid ED visits reached an all-pandemic high for 0-15 year olds. Covid ED visits for 0-15 year olds even surpassed those for 75+ and all other age groups for that matter. Alarming.
@proustmalone It's sad that this is accepted and being normalized.
FDR: "and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level, I mean the wages of decent living.”
Apparently, working and being hungry and/or homeless is considered a "decent living" in this country, it's pathetic.
Sure, it *seems* "uninhabitable", with so many humans running about and crammed together, with guns & poor hygiene & radical fascist anti- human-rights politics... but the actual land & wild space beneath, beyond, and in between is quite lovely.
Shouldn't be so hard on the US.
everyone says "u feel a lot better when u get regular exercise and it can also help with ADHD symptoms" and im always like yea yea i know but then after 3-4 days of biking im like "wow u really feel a lot better when u get regular exercise and it can also help with ADHD symptoms"
i am one of only 15% of autistic people in employment. i’m also incredibly privileged to be self-employed and able to work from home. even *that* is exhausting and regularly leaves me too unwell to get out of bed. full time employment is simply not accessible to autistic folks!!!
i was a contact tracer
***schools were the most active sources of exposure outside of hospitals***
they had us stop recording the school outbreak data the same way they had us stop recording breakthrough cases
You occasionally ask yourself if things are normal, don't you?
You see all these news stories about people dying suddenly, 42 year old ex-footballers, 47 year old comedians, 53 year old pop stars...
You think back to 2019 and wonder how many people were dying then...
😮
Biden: "They keep telling me...I gotta keep wearing (a mask), but don't tell them I didn't have it on when I walked in."
Unacceptable for @POTUS to be speaking like this. He should advocate for masks at every opportunity. By setting a poor example, he puts many others at risk.
Mr. President #COVID is not a joke,
Please Follow the CDC guidelines, You were in close contact with The First Lady who tested positive for COVID-19, wear the Mask for 10 days when around others and indoors.
President Biden joked about not wearing a mask before talking to reporters in the White House today & said "Don't tell them I didn't have it on."
School #COVID outbreaks are real. They have led to cancelled classes due to widespread illnesses. Philly now requires kids to test and isolate then wear masks. Even 2 school districts in Alabama brought back masks. We all should. #MaskUp

"We accept respiratory diseases right now, like colds and flu, as a way of life — but maybe we don't have to" @linseymarr said. "Maybe if we start paying more attention to cleaning our indoor air, we could really reduce the burden on our health & society"

composer John Cage asked for his organ piece to be played "as slow as possible" so 22 years ago today the Halberstadt Cathedral in Germany was like "okay" and embarked on a 639 year continuous performance. Each note lasts a months and Wikipedia has a schedule
