Many times, behavior happens as people seek control because they feel powerless. This is especially true in children, adolescents, and teens. They traditionally have limited control over what happens in their lives and seek to find that control through behavior.
Behavior is about CONTROL or a lack thereof. We are quick to call everything "attention-seeking" behavior. "They only want attention." What if what they want is CONTROL? Control of the situation. Control of their emotions. Control of the outcome.
