@GlobeKPD No. Don't let any FAs walk without trying to the get something for them in a trade. Sign Geekie to an extension because they can't afford to lose anyone with scoring touch. Time for management to shake things up. Heck of a decade, but time to move on.
@GlobeKPD Should be in sell mode. Unload Frederic, Carlo and a few others. Start the painful retool and maybe it can turn around in a year or two with some smart acquisitions. Kidding themselves that this roster can win anything is foolish.
@GlobeKPD The salary cap also takes away the ability to scratch multiple players. Too comfortable knowing only possible penalty for poor play is less ice time. And if you bench stars then probably have even less chance to win.
@GlobeKPD Who would have ever thought after that record setting first season, Monty would be close to being canned before Thanksgiving in his third year. But the players look lost and waiting for a change. Not a Stanley Cup winning roster, but they are much better than this.
@GlobeKPD Substitute lazy stick infractions for too many men on the ice and the rest of the story is the same. Players look like they are hoping for a change.
@GlobeKPD Yeah, the 1st is a decent start. Maybe they can use that as part of a package to get a legit scorer. Drafting for the future with Pastrnak, McAvoy and Swayman in their prime doesn't make much sense.
@GlobeKPD Maybe the front office needs to be willing to acquire players who have flaws defensively but have ability to score. You can teach guys to check. All the defensive ability doesn't matter if you can't convert chances.
@GlobeKPD Not a coincidence that they have looked better the two games Heinen has played. That line is generating chances. Now if they could just finish a few of them.
@GlobeKPD Yes, and they really don't have much in the system besides Lohrei. Do you trade Ullmark or maybe see what you can get for Lindholm or Carlo since D seem to offer more trade value? And find a No. 1 point guy for PP.
@GlobeKPD Lohrei absolutely needs to be on PP1 because he makes things happen. Have to live with the mistakes. Playing conservatively isn't going to win games against Florida. 7 D and double shifting Pastrnak and Debrusk makes too much sense.
@GlobeKPD CMAC won't shoot and it carries over to the others except Pastrnak. Shattenkirk probably best point guy but he is 50/50 to be in playoff lineup. Why not use Heinen-Zacha-Patrnak combo to see if they can do anything?
@GlobeKPD@BostonGlobe Good article. They need to concentrate on what roster additions can help them beat Florida and Carolina since those teams give them problems.
@GlobeKPD Bergeron and Krejci always seemed to be in right spot to clear trouble away in the slot. The new centers don't have that experience so growing pains.
