The SRCC & Head of AUSSOM, Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, today met Uganda’s Deputy Head of Mission to Somalia, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Nathan Mugisha, in Mogadishu to discuss security and ongoing joint AUSSOM–SSF efforts against Al-Shabaab.

Amb. Diene commended @MODVA_UPDF personnel serving in Somalia for their contributions to peace, security and stability. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha reaffirmed Uganda’s support for the AUSSOM mandate.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation and coordination for the Somali-led peace, security and stabilisation process.

AUSSOM #UPDF troops celebrated #Uganda's 63rd Independence Anniversary at the Uganda Embassy in Mogadishu on Friday. Uganda’s Ambassador to Somalia, Prof. Sam Tulya-muhika, praised the troops for their contributions to Somalia's peace and economic recovery efforts.

Themed “A reason to double our efforts in sustaining a united and progressive nation”, Ambassador Tulya-muhika highlighted UPDF’s professionalism and dedication to #Somalia’s stability, noting that their efforts have laid the foundation for governance & economic progress.

I wish to salute the founding fathers of the Non-Aligned Movement who gave us a solid start in the fight against the influence of hegemony that emerged in the 1940s. Indeed, this failed approach to shared global prosperity was challenged in history (Catholicism in Europe, Metternich in Austria-Hungary, not to mention those who tried and succeeded temporarily in colonising us only for it to end badly for them).

Looking at the turnout and momentum under the theme of “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Prosperity”, I feel strongly, as a third-generation anti-colonial fighter from Africa, that we may be the hope of the world.
