๐จHappy to share our new mini-review on phage-encoded small RNAs and their potential for phage therapy and antibacterial strategies, written with Aviezer Silverman!

A new study, led by Prof. Neta Regev-Rudzki and published in @CellReports, revealed that the malaria parasite can reach the most protected and fortified target inside immune cells โ the nucleus >> https://t.co/veFXAfIFm9
Do viruses use RNA to rewire bacteria?
Yes!
In our paper in @MolecularCell we use #RILseq to uncover that phages donโt just encode proteins, they use small RNAs to hijack bacterial DNA replication and fine-tune infection.

Congratulations to Prof. @IgorUlitsky of the Department of Immunology and Regenerative Biology, upon being appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Biology. Prof. Ulitsky will assume his role on December 1, 2025
Weirdly enough, the Israeli RNA society invited me to give a talk at their annual meeting. Had fun! Tnx to @ILublinsky and @tal_shay and @BarakRotblat ๐ฅโญ๏ธ
Our focus issue on RNA biology features reviews that explore the many faces of #RNA, diving into the processes mediating the lifecycle of RNA, the regulatory roles of RNA, the importance of RNA in disease, and the technologies used to study RNA. https://t.co/Y4hNLNC5zz
๐จNew preprint from our lab! We map the RNA interactions in E. coli infected by lambda, revealing an RNA-driven regulatory layer in phage-host dynamics. We find a phage-encoded sRNA hijacking host replication machinery, impacting the phage cycle.#microbiology#phages@MeetingRna
New lab ๐ฐ in @NAR_Open, the 2nd paper of star postdoc Sveta Farberov. A tour-de-force into how we can use MPRAs to understand binding-function landscape for RBPs. We address the following Qs: https://t.co/aVKOGszb7Q
BREAKING NEWS
The 2024 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
@RNA_ISR announce the 2nd award for excellence in RNA research in memory of Prof. Yossi Sperling, recognizing exceptional contributions of PhD students to advancing the field of RNA. The award is open to all PhD students in Israel.
See attached for more details.

Please mark your calendars for the 8th Conference on Regulating with RNA in Bacteria and Archaea! The meeting will be heldย September 1 - 4, 2025, at the Strasbourg Convention Centre, Strasbourg, France ๐ซ๐ท.
We are very excited and hope to see as many of you as possible!
Check this work by Hanah Margalit lab and @yunnhwen of mapping RNA-RNA interactions in Klebsiella pneumoniae! This work joins an earlier work published this year by @papenfortlab & @microbeRNA on sRNA-mediated regulation in K. pneumoniae as revealed by #RILseq
