🇺🇸🇮🇷 After eight attempts, the U.S. Senate has finally advanced a War Powers Resolution limiting military activities against Iran, passing 50-47.

Key details:

-Four Republicans crossed the aisle to vote yes: Susan Collins, Bill Cassidy, Lisa Murkowski, and Rand Paul

-Democrat John Fetterman broke ranks to vote against the resolution

-This is the first time any Iran war powers resolution has cleared the Senate

The political ground is shifting fast.

This comes as the Pentagon admitted the war cost $29 billion (real number closer to $1 trillion), and Iran's missile sites are 90% operational, the Senate finally found the spine to put a leash on the war.

Whether the House follows is the next question.

Whether Trump signs or vetoes is the bigger one.

The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 If America cannot convince Iran to hand over its nuclear material, it may not be possible to retrieve otherwise.

The highly enriched uranium, estimated to be enough for 10+ nuclear warheads, is believed to be stored in scuba tank-sized containers deep underground.

So deep that even the U.S. military's most powerful bunker busters may not be able to reach them.

So what if they send in special forces to retrieve the materials?

That would only require one of the most complex military and engineering operations ever attempted, going into a hostile country and extracting a huge amount of radioactive material.

Much more difficult than, say, extracting Nicholas Maduro in his pajamas.

And that’s assuming the U.S. even knows exactly where all of it is, as satellite imagery shows what is happening on the surface, but cannot see through mountains.

Iran has had years to think about exactly this scenario, and it chose to locate the material accordingly.

The gap between what Trump is suggesting and what’s actually feasible might make diplomacy the only possibility.

And the way things are looking, diplomacy might be even less realistic.
