Hoffman will buy $35M worth of shares, and other investors will buy up to 15M. Hoffman has expressed interest in buying the company for more than a year.
David Hoffman, a Florida-based billionaire, is taking control of Lee Enterprises, which owns the Times-Dispatch. The company’s CEO, Kevin Mowbray, is resigning with a $1.5M payout, the St Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Lee’s primary lender, will cut Lee’s interest rate for 5 years.

Lee has laid off 11 journalists in Richmond in just the past year.

Each layoff is a blow to our staff's morale and leaves us scrambling to fill coverage holes. Ultimately, our community suffers with less local news.
Earlier this month, the newspaper announced declining print and online subscription numbers, which is no surprise given the low quality of our digital product. We continue to call on Lee to improve our website and digital tools and to catch up with the rest of the industry.
Today, @chicagotribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.
