For those who know young readers, I can thoroughly recommend a new book of fiction, combining elements of fantasy with a strong environmental message:
"The Lost Art of the Oracle", by Evie Nilsson.

Tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran are long-standing, even before today's events. Notice Aliyev's reference to the Azerbaijanis in Iran. That is an ill-concealed attempt to warn Tehran that Azerbaijan might make turmoil in Iran worse, if they choose.

@McFaul On what possible basis do you "keep an open mind"? As an academic you surely have to be evidence-led? In the behaviour of the Trump administration so far, what leads you to the possibility they might care about ordinary Iranians' fate? Genuine question, because I can't see it
Ok, so Trump has:
- Taken away healthcare support for millions
- Threatened Americans' 2nd amendment rights
- Suggested American boots on the ground might be needed in the war against Iran
How could Kamala Harris have done more damage to MAGA priorities?

@stavridisj So...if the Americans and Israelis throw some bombs and then leave ordinary Iranians to fend for themselves, and if those Iranians are then gunned down, would that atrocity somehow reflect on ordinary Iranians...
@kajakallas OK, de-escalation sounds good. Now, how are you going to square the circle of an Israeli regime that wants to destroy the Iranian state, and an Iranian regime that sees itself in an existential crisis? Who's going to unite Iran? Who's going to unite the region? Why would they?
@McFaul And what happens the next day? No reason to mourn Khamenei but the regime remains. And if that goes, who's uniting Iran? Or the region? Would be nice with analysis from your side, instead of bland bumper stickers...
@JohnSimpsonNews US and Israel haven't a clue on this. US/Trump doesn't care and would likely want to work with the new regime (as in Venezuela), Israel/Netanyahu want to continue the destruction og Iranian state capacity. A self-determining Iranian people is not a priority for Netanyahu.
@RadioFreeTom The problem is that no one "responsible" is pricing in what "disaster" might look like. Not about "hoping" for disaster - it's about despairing that American, Israeli, Saudi and other leaders are so unable and unwilling to think strategically... What's the end goal here?
