Agriculture remains one of the strongest pillars of Kenya's economy, and strengthening partnerships across the value chain is key to creating jobs, enhancing food security and growing farmer incomes.
As part of the Kenya–Saudi Arabia Political Consultations, I toured Almarai, the world's largest vertically integrated dairy company, which produces more than 4.2 million litres of milk daily from a herd of over 170,000 Holstein Friesian cows.
The visit offered valuable insights into how innovation, technology and efficient value chain management have transformed a desert landscape into a globally competitive agricultural enterprise. It was equally inspiring to meet Kenyan professionals contributing their expertise across Almarai's operations. More than 2,470 Kenyans work for the company in management, technical and operational roles, a testament to the talent and competitiveness of our workforce.
The experience reinforces the need to modernise Kenya's dairy value chain through technology, investment and skills development, while expanding opportunities for skilled Kenyans in international markets. By doing so, we can increase productivity, strengthen food security, boost exports and create more employment opportunities for our people.
Wanjiru Mambo, the 38-year-old CEO and Founder of WedgeHut Foods Limited, is transforming Kenya’s agricultural value chain. Her company provides premium, ready-to-cook potato products to hotels, restaurants and schools, while pioneering zero-waste sustainability by transforming smaller surplus tubers into potato starch. Non-sugar sweeteners do not help with weight control in the long term. they might cause other health problems later. In fact, on the long term, these products may have potentially undesirable effects, such as an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or mortality in adults.
