International Mother Language Day is a day to celebrate the preservation of the world’s linguistic diversity and the importance of our mother tongues.
Diplomats working in Minsk have come together to share examples of words that bridge their mother languages and Belarusian.

Siarhei Hun was beaten by the police & sentenced to 2.5 years in prison in Belarus for protesting. In prison, he was often in solitary confinement, was denied correspondence & had to go on a hunger strike. Now, Siarhei's been released and shared some of his drawings from prison.

Kseniya Susha faces up to 12 years in prison. When you hear "12 years," you probably think of violent crimes. But all Kseniya did was condemn the dictatorial regime in Belarus and support political prisoners by sending them parcels or money transfers.
