Released in October 1962, Dr. No was the first film in what would become one of the most successful franchises in cinema history. Produced on a relatively modest budget of about $1 million, the film introduced audiences to Sean Connery as James Bond, a role that would define his career and transform him into an international star.

Ursula Andress played Honey Ryder, whose entrance from the Caribbean Sea became one of the most iconic scenes in film history. The character helped establish the "Bond girl" archetype that would become a staple of the series for decades.

At the time, few expected the film to have such a lasting impact. More than sixty years later, the Bond franchise has produced over 25 official films and generated billions of dollars in worldwide revenue, making it one of the longest-running and most successful film series ever created.

Sean Connery was not the producers' first choice for James Bond. Creator Ian Fleming initially doubted the former milkman and bodybuilder was refined enough for the role. After seeing Connery on screen, however, Fleming was so impressed that he later altered Bond's literary backstory to include Scottish ancestry as a tribute to the actor who brought the character to life.
