I'm not mayor any more, and have passed the gavel to Ifiok Inyang (with my full confidence and support - I did not run for re-election). I'll be shutting down my account soon as I'm mostly on Mastodon, but will see if Mayor Inyang wants to grab the account name first.
Today is Maryland's Primary Election, and includes (for registered Democrats) an election to choose a candidate for US Senate, with County Exec Alsobrooks as a strong candidate in that race. I hope that all of you turn out today! Polls close at 8pm!
I was proud to participate in this event this morning, and even more proud that we will be receiving a big part of this check for determining where our pedestrian safety issues are. Many thanks to @RepGlennIvey for organizing the event and working hard for all of us!
Great news! The @USDOT's Safe Streets for All Grant Program funds initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. Our district #MD04 is getting a combined $10.6 million to upgrade infrastructure and save lives. This is smart governance in action.

The @pgcps Board of Education appreciates the outpouring of support for the Riverdale Elementary School families grieving the tragic loss of their children and for the school community that is processing this terrible tragedy.
@MRESPTO, Thank you for the urgent appeal to drivers to slow down, stop at signs and put the safety of children walking to school first. Municipal, County and State leaders are committed to working together on the many solutions for Safe Routes to Schools.
I just received a phone call from Governor Wes Moore asking me to pass his deepest condolences on to the families of the children, and offering any resources needed to investigate and respond to this tragedy.
Tragically, at approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning, two children were struck by a vehicle as they walked to Riverdale Elementary School. Both children died in this accident. The driver stayed at the scene.
At this time, I ask that all residents join me, the Town Council, and staff in prayer for the families experiencing this unimaginable loss and pain. We also hold those who witnessed and responded to this horrific accident in our thoughts and prayers.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new council is currently scheduled for June 5, but there is an open question about whether it must occur sooner that will be settled in the next few days.

Ward 1: Richard Smith
Ward 2: Aaron Faulx
Ward 3: David Lingua
Ward 4: Ifiok Inyang
Ward 5: Karen Mejia
Ward 6: Foday Kallon
Thanks to everyone involved in the election!
I'm heading out shortly to the neighborhood east of Baltimore/US1 and south of East-West Highway. Later in the afternoon I'll join Ifiok Inyang (candidate for ward 4) in Silk Tree.

Thursday afternoon at 5:00 pm was the deadline for petitions to be on the ballot, and I'm the only one who applied to be Mayor! As I've done in the past I will continue to campaign to learn about issues that I may not have heard about...
@john_rigg People speeding and ignoring stop signs, largely on Woodberry street (and coming over the bridge). We have a bunch of "traffic calming" plans in the works for addressing these issues but we are waiting for the streets to be transferred to us before we can start....
Last weekend I focused on Riverdale Park Station / "The Station" (Ward 4) and spoke with around 40 voters (and knocked on a lot more doors); I finished that day in the northern part of Ward 1 and spoke with around a dozen voters.
Today was Ward 6 - I was walking with a candidate for the Council seat there, Foday Kallon. Because of a friendly resident I was able to knock on some doors that I'd never been able to get to! I connected with around a dozen voters and a lot of unregistered residents.
