It is notable that, at the time, the president of Haiti's brother-in-law was a well known drug trafficker and DEA informant.

Below is a US court document from 2008 describing Kiko St. Remy, Martelly's brother-in-law, as one of the country's major kingpins. The US intervened in Haiti's elections two years later to help Martelly become president.
