@PeatWorrier Interesting as always. I thought this comment by COPFS, reported in the Record today, was ‘interesting’. On pure population ratio, 100 prosecutions in Scotland is roughly the equivalent of 800-900 in England. That seems about right, begging an obvious question.
Prof Norrie was an extremely engaging lecturer and I still remember so well the relish with which he would stir the pot in family law honours tutorials. A well deserved retirement.

How can The Guardian be this clueless? Barristers (and Advocates) are self-employed. They are not in partnership with other members of chambers. This is one of the central tenets of a referral bar. Members of chambers frequently appear against each other. https://t.co/KZKlCQTtds
Important decision from the UKSC on uncontroverted evidence and expert opinion. Not generally enough to wait until submissions to challenge an expert’s opinion though there are exceptions. https://t.co/0yB551Vygc
“Price plans to use some of his wealth — the court was told that he is worth more than £20 million — to sue the Environment Agency for his losses while in prison, which he says were “about £5 million”.”
Hmmm. Might be best not to bother…

Increased number of trials and reducing numbers of criminal solicitors. This thread makes depressing reading for practitioners already stretched too far.
This thread stems exclusively from experiences of committee members of the SSBA but our experiences will be replicated across the country. Meanwhile @ScotGovJustice have adopted a “crisis? what crisis” approach to the problem. How much longer will this debacle be tolerated?
