@YinKysmileS Several great points... it's a hard paradigm to break when Luther's mapping of the RCC's salvation SOPs onto the OT / Israel is still accepted by most Protestants. I actually don't think the Reformers had access to correct info about Judaism so I can fault them completely.

@swamthetiber25 I recommended Matt Bates book 'Salvation by Allegiance Alone' - he looks at the context of the word and explores the various theological connections.
When the word is placed in its proper honor / shame culture and the connection to the system of Grace (Greek), much is cleared up
