We've been delighted seeing the response to the illustrations of our musicians that feature in our new 2026:27 Concert Season brochure.
Edinburgh-based artist Eri Griffin has created a beautiful and striking series of portraits, capturing the musicians' movement, energy and personality through ink and colour.

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Giedrė Šlekytė as our new Music Director from the beginning of the 2027:28 Season.
Our Chief Executive Alistair Mackie said: ‘There are weeks in rehearsals when something shifts. A buzz starts, momentum builds. You can feel it coming from the musicians themselves. And when it does happen, our audiences can feel it too. That’s what happened with Giedrė.'
Giedrė blew us away when she made her debut last year with Mahler's Symphony No1. Following the success of those concerts and subsequent recording sessions, it is clear she is the right person for the role.
Our current Music Director Thomas Søndergård will step into his new position of Music Director Emeritus which recognises his exceptional contributions to the Orchestra over the 18 years since his debut.
Please join us in giving Giedrė a warm welcome to the RSNO and congratulating Thomas on his new position!

Why join the RSNO Circle?
"I wanted to support what the RSNO does, in some small way. I’m also very keen to attend rehearsals, when that is offered, as I think this would be fascinating.
I find the whole idea and range and complexity of an orchestra an extraordinary and beautiful human event, often emotional, moving and inspiring. Watching the musicians and conductors is a great pleasure, and adds so much to the enjoyment of the music." -New Circle Member, March 2026
