This reminds me of my husband’s tour of the USSR in 1990 with BYU’s Synthesis. No missionaries had been assigned to the USSR yet (or so we thought), but two elders boarded their tour bus to let them know they were serving there in Leningrad (St. Petersburg today.) One, ironically, was named Elder Reagan. The elders had been called to Helsinki, I believe.

Dear Utah House District 38, Friends, and Family –

Tomorrow I will begin my ninth and final General Session, since I am not running for re-election. My current term ends later this year. Until then, I will continue to represent our district with enthusiasm and gratitude.

Serving District 38 in the Utah House has been a tremendous honor. It has also been the greatest learning experience of my life. The people, of course, have been the best part – the people I represent, the people I serve with and work with at the Capitol, and the people I’ve met along the way.

Before coming into the legislature, I was jaded by what I had observed of politics. A lifetime of media consumption had prepared me for the worst, and I fully expected to find it.

Instead of finding the worst, I found the best. Not only the best state, populated by the best people, but also the best legislature, elected by the people, and the best executive branch agencies, staffed by the people.

Utah has famously received many national accolades on a variety of metrics (best state, best managed state, best state for upward mobility, most fiscally stable state, etc.) Those awards evaluate outcomes, but inputs have been my concern.

What makes Utah Utah? And how can we make it even better? That is the focus of every legislative session and of every worthy legislator.

I've concluded that Utah is great because its people have high expectations of themselves and of their government. May that ever be the case!

To my surprise, being a legislator has increased my capacity to love and care about complete strangers. Identifying talents and skills in others has become my superpower.

Serving in public office is a daily exercise in gratitude and humility. It is a mantle, of sorts. I’d never given much thought to the relationship between a legislator and a constituent before serving, but it is a very important constitutional trust.

Thank you for trusting me and my fellow legislators with the awesome responsibility of representing you at the Capitol.

The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square (@TheTabChoir) have kicked off their annual Christmas concerts on Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Tony Award-winning actress Stephanie J. Block and her husband, Broadway and television star Sebastian Arcelus, are the featured guest artists for the 2025 Christmas concerts. 

“There is a hug factor to this Conference Center,” said Block, even though the venue can seat 21,000 people. “It felt welcoming.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts the annual event to celebrate the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

When Shohei Ohtani was a high school freshman, he created a detailed "dream sheet" with one central goal: to be the #1 draft pick for 8 NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) teams.

It was a 64-cell roadmap based on a framework called the Harada Method.

Here's exactly what Shohei did 👇

1. First, some history.... The Harada Method was created by Takashi Harada, a Japanese junior high track coach. He took a team ranked last out of 380 schools and, using his system, turned them into the #1 team in the region within 3 years. They held that top spot for the next 6 years.

2. You start by placing your main goal in the center of an 8x8 grid. For Ohtani, this was "be the #1 draft pick."

3. Next, you identify 8 critical supporting pillars needed to achieve that goal. These surround the main goal.

Ohtani's 8 pillars were:
• Body
• Control
• Sharpness
• Speed
• Pitch Variance
• Personality
• Karma/Luck
• Mental Toughness

4. You then break down each of those 8 pillars into 8 smaller, actionable tasks or daily routines.

This fills out the entire 64-cell grid, turning a massive dream into a concrete, daily action plan.

To improve his karma, he listed tangible actions like:

• Showing Respect to Umpires
• Picking up trash
• Being positive
• Being someone people want to support

5. The method goes far deeper than just technical skills. It forces you to analyze your weaknesses and build confidence. It also has a highlight on service to others, emphasizing that humility and contributing to your community are essential for personal success.

6. The key to the system is daily execution and accountability. Once the 64-cell chart is complete, you turn the tasks and habits into a daily diary and a "Routine Check Sheet." It’s designed to transform abstract intentions into a measurable, daily practice.

Might be a good idea. The problem could resolve itself with actual, immediate consequences, allowing fans to police themselves. Like teaching remedial core subjects to incoming college students, universities now have to teach basic human courtesy - which is more important than any other subject or the outcome of any game.

It's Constitution Day! 🇺🇸 This morning I attended a great event called by Gov. @SpencerJCox to discuss Federalism and the significance of not only our 3 branches of govt (famous for their checks and balances) but also the dual roles of fed'l and state govt, each of which serves as a check and balance on the other. Some of the solutions to many of the serious problems we face as a nation (overspending, hyper-partisanship, bureaucracy, etc.) are hiding in plain sight in our founding documents. As @KenIvoryUT explains, the Founders gave us a machine that makes LIBERTY! But when we fail to maintain it or use it properly as designed, it doesn't function well. (Sometimes it seems it barely functions at all.) Today we heard from Gov. Cox, Speaker @MikeSchultz_12, @AGDerekBrown, UVU Professor @TroyESmith4, and Rep. Ivory, who also shared a statement from Rep. Jen Dailey-Provost. It's a bi-partisan effort. Next week, Utah will host the first-ever National Federalism Initiative Conference with 12 state legislatures represented. Witnessing progress...Happy Constitution Day!
