I hope tonight was wonderful for Glen Suchanek, Milwaukie’s first Behavioral Health Specialist and Deputy Director of LoveOne, a Clackamas County nonprofit that works with our unsheltered neighbors. Way to represent Team Milwaukie in Washington D.C. tonight, Glen!
I wish I had been able to talk with my grandfather about what he experienced when he was in the Navy and Marines. I may never know the extent of what he went through but I know that his love and dedication for our family and country was something that he held at his core.
My grandfather was 22 years old when he was drafted into World War II. He was a medic for the Navy in the Pacific theater and gratefully returned home shortly after the bombings in Pearl Harbor. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to experience such trauma and then
stress that military service comes with, the systemic support that has to be in place for people when they end that service, and the resources we need to make available for housing, mental health, and stabilization.
We may not have final results tonight but we can definitely celebrate all the hard work and dedication to connect with communities all across the country. Thank you to everyone who has pitched in to make change!
Election Day is here! Whether you’re voting today or already voted - thank you for making your voice heard and supporting amazing candidates and initiatives all the way down the ballot.
My middle schooler wears a sweatshirt to school that has “Thoughts and prayers” scratched out and underneath that it says “Policy and change”. They’ve been wearing that sweatshirt since their second grade protest against gun violence and every single time…
chance to grow up safely and without the trauma of going back to school the day after another school shooting. Without the trauma of thinking which of their favorite teachers would throw themselves in front of a bullet to save their classroom.
We're excited to see two bold, transportation-forward women running for local office in Milwaukie this November.

To date, 14 states, more than 130 cities, and growing numbers of school districts celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day in place of or in addition to Columbus Day.
Indigenous People's Day is still not a federal holiday.
Here are some things you can do today, and honestly all year:
Listen - seek out indigenous voices, advocates, creators
Learn - start at https://t.co/VdmEplqKjq and find out more about where you now call home
