In 2023, Katalin Karikรณ won the Nobel Prize (with Drew Weissman) for their crucial discoveries in mRNA technology.
But in 1995, the University of Pennsylvania demoted Karikรณ, dismissing her mRNA research as impractical โ inadvertently risking the delay or abandonment of one of humanity's great scientific breakthroughs.
She tells me the story of how this happened.
