Progress doesn’t happen by chance, it’s built by people. Today, we honor the hands and hearts behind Rwanda’s progress.
Pause. Breathe. Celebrate your impact!
Happy Labor Day.
Today, we brought together the people responsible for ensuring payments don’t just move but move right. Following last week’s engagement with the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR), one thing became clear: the ambition around eKash by RSwitch is aligned, but execution needs to catch up, and in payments, execution is everything.
So this was not a routine session, in the room were Chief Operations Officers and Heads of Operations from across the #eKash ecosystem, representing banks, fintechs, and payment service providers all participating in Rwanda National Digital Payment System.
The people responsible for making interoperability work, not in theory, but in real, everyday transactions. We took a deep dive into RNDPS eKash operations, aligning on processes, expectations, and the realities behind seamless payment execution across institutions.
Because here’s the truth: In an interoperable ecosystem, almost working is not working. One delay, one gap, one inconsistency, and the entire experience breaks, and the customer doesn’t see institutions, they see one system.
So, the focus is simple: Consistency. Reliability. Accountability.
For when eKash reaches the market at scale, it has to feel effortless: One code. One payment. One experience.
That’s the standard, and that’s what we’re building.

There’s a quiet rhythm behind every transaction, not the beep of a terminal or the flash of a notification, but the people who make it all make sense. As we closed out Women’s Month, we took a moment to pause, bringing everyone together in a room filled with laughter, gratitude, and tokens of appreciation, to recognize the women who keep the wheels of money movement turning across every layer of what we do.
From the precision of settlement operations to the innovation behind our technology, to the vigilance that secures every transaction, these are the minds we rely on every single day. Beyond the systems and screens, there are women whose roles are just as essential to how we function: maintaining the spaces we work in and safeguarding the environments we depend on. Different responsibilities, one shared impact, ensuring everything works, every day, without fail.
For every time money moves seamlessly, securely, instantly there is intention, discipline, and expertise behind it. Today was a moment of appreciation, but the reality is constant: #women are integral to the system, to its strength, and to its future, and we are better not just as an organization, but as a community because of that.

Yesterday, we held a workshop with the first movers on the eKash P2B use case, institutions that have moved with speed to implement merchant interoperability and are actively shaping how payments look in the market. Importantly, the @CentralBankRw was also present, grounding the conversation in national direction and reinforcing that this shift is not just industry-led, but nation-wide.
In the room were representative from @GTBankRW, @BankofKigali, @imbankrw, @BPRbankrw, @RwEquityBank, @mvendgroup, @CentrikaRw, @NCBABankRw, and @AirtelMoney_Rw. Each of them has made a deliberate decision to #move, accepting interoperable merchant payments across their rails.
Because this is what it comes down to: instead of a business needing many different ways to receive money, one for each bank or mobile wallet, they now only need one code, and no matter where the money is coming from, one can still pay using that same code. Before, it was complicated: 'I only accept this bank' or 'send it here first.' Now, it’s simple, if you have money, you can pay. It sounds small, but in practice, it changes everything.
@BankofKigali and @mvendgroup were the pioneers on the P2B use case, quietly proving that interoperability is not theory, it works. @GTBankRW plc stepped in with @CentrikaRw, followed by @imbankrw, @NCBABankRw, and @RwEquityBank.
So why should people care?
If you own a business, this means you no longer need multiple collection methods. You can display a single code from the bank that serves you best and receive payments from everyone. No more end-of-day scrambling to move money across accounts, you collect once, settle once, and that consistency? It opens doors to access credit, because your cash flow becomes visible and reliable.
For the everyday user, it’s even simpler. You don’t need to move money between wallets or banks just to make a payment. If your funds are in your bank account, you can pay any merchant, whether their code is from BK, GT, NCBA, MVend, or others, instantly. Payments are completed in seconds, with clear verification of who you’re paying.
For the market, this shifts the game. Financial institutions can now focus on building better products instead of duplicating infrastructure. It becomes less about competing on rails, and more about serving people.
With eKash, moving money is becoming simpler, faster, and more inclusive.

#IFF2026 may have come to a close, but the conversations didn’t stop there. At #MojaCom, the real work of payments infrastructure design continued.
During the session on product design and implementation, Ishimwe Promesse D., Payments Product Manager at @RSwitch, unpacked a question that every fintech ecosystem eventually faces: Does quality software automatically translate into a quality product?
His answer pushed the conversation beyond code. He said that a strong product begins with understanding the market and localizing technology to the realities of the ecosystem it serves. It requires building the operational layers that sustain trust, including dispute and reconciliation portals that ensure transparency across participants. But even that is not enough. A quality product must also be implemented correctly, rolled out deliberately, and managed continuously to ensure it serves banks, fintechs, merchants, and citizens effectively. In payment systems, the difference between good software and a great product often lies in how well the ecosystem around it is designed and managed.
That philosophy continues to guide the evolution of eKash by RSwitch, where technology is only the beginning, and the real goal is building systems that work for people every day.

POV: If every country builds its own payment highway but none of them connect, you end up with beautiful roads that all stop at the border. The real breakthrough is when the highways meet.
At the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026, Jean Jacques Kajuga, COO of @RSwitch, argued that the future of cross-border payments lies in connecting national instant payment systems not adding more intermediaries.
Standardization and switch-to-switch interoperability can reduce FX costs, minimize payment hops, and move money across Africa faster and more affordably.

At the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026, @RSwitch, Chief Digital Innovation & Projects Aimable Rukundo highlighted a hard truth about payment systems:
'In payments, 99.6% success is not enough if the 0.4% failure isn’t managed properly.'
Through centralized monitoring, real-time visibility across participants, and fast dispute resolution, the eKash interoperable payment system ensures trust remains at the center of every transaction.
For infrastructure lives or dies on trust. Roads can have potholes and people still drive. Payment systems get almost no such forgiveness. One bad experience, and the human brain starts whispering, 'maybe cash is safer.'
The entire craft of a national switch is making sure that whisper never gets loud.

'The magic happens when you listen to the market you operate in. Start with pain points, address them step by step, and let use cases emerge naturally. No scheme succeeds alone.'
– Mohamed Maalim, Payments Technology Advisor, Rwanda National Switch at #IFF2026
eKash is built on this principle, inclusive, practical, and responsive to the real needs of citizens, merchants, and institutions.

At the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026 Mojaloop Convening, Blaise Pascal Gasabira, CEO of @RSwitch, highlighted that instant payments are not a product. They are national infrastructure.
Through eKash, Rwanda is showing what true financial leadership looks like, interoperable rails built as a sovereignty choice, designed to be neutral, resilient, and inclusive. This is not just technology; it’s a national commitment to ensure money moves securely, instantly, and accessibly for everyone, every day.
#IFF2026 #Mojaloop #FinancialInclusion #DigitalPublicInfrastructure #eKash #CashlessRwanda
During MojaCom at the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026, Hon. @MusoniPaula highlighted a powerful idea shaping the future of finance:
'Instant payment systems are the digital rails of modern economies.'
Just as roads and electricity powered past economic growth, today’s digital economies need payment infrastructure that moves money instantly, securely, and at low cost. In Rwanda, those rails are being built through the @eKashrs interoperable payment system, connecting banks, mobile wallets, and financial institutions across one interoperable ecosystem.
#IFF2026 #MojaCom #DigitalPublicInfrastructure #FinancialInclusion #eKash
We are proud to be part of #eKash, Rwanda's national digital payment system. A platform that has enabled money to move between banks, SACCOs, MFIs, MNOs and Fintechs.
The implementation of eKash has positioned Rwanda as an example of interoperability being practical not only in Africa, but in the world.
Steve Haley- @mojaloop
At the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026, @SorayaMHlive, Governor of the @CentralBankRw, set the tone with a powerful message for the fintech ecosystem.
“The future of finance is already here; the real question is whether our systems are ready for it.”
She reflected on Rwanda’s remarkable leap in financial inclusion, rising from 21% to 92%, and emphasized that when technology meets the right regulatory and innovation environment, inclusion can move forward at extraordinary speed. Fintech, she noted, is not only expanding access to financial services, but lowering costs and allowing millions to participate in the formal economy.
Her call was clear: move from digital islands to digital continents, scale solutions beyond pilots, and build resilient systems that support equity, trust, and shared prosperity. Because in the next chapter of Africa’s financial future, integration, digital sovereignty, and collaboration across the ecosystem will determine how far inclusion can go.
#IFF2026 #FinancialInclusion #Fintech #DigitalPayments #Interoperability #AfricaFintech
During her remarks at the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026, the CEO of the @Kigali_IFC left the room with a sharp reminder:
Technology must scale inclusion. Regulation must power innovation, and there is a real difference between innovation and building systems that actually work.
POV: That is exactly why solutions like @eKashrs interoperable payment system exist, to turn innovation into functioning infrastructure. The kind that allows money to move across banks, mobile wallets, SACCOs, and merchants seamlessly, bringing more people into the financial system.
For in fintech, the real breakthrough is not the idea.
It’s the system that works every single day.

Day 2 at the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026 is stepping up the tempo!
Today, two voices from the switch take the stage as Blaise Pascal GASABIRA, CEO of @RSwitch, delivers the Private Sector Keynote right after the Public Sector perspective from Hon. @MusoniPaula. The conversation doesn’t stop there. Blaise will also join panels on the economics of zero-fee instant payments and the data-sharing foundations that allow fintechs to build on digital public infrastructure. Later in the day, the one and only Mohamed Maalim, Payments Technology Advisor at @RSwitch , will dive into the realities of running instant payment systems in real time, from liquidity management to uptime and operational resilience.
While the discussions unfold on stage, the eKash interoperable payment system booth remains open and buzzing. Whether the conversation is technical, strategic, or simply curiosity about how Rwanda’s National Digital Payment System (RNDPS) aka #eKash works, the team is ready to walk you through the rails powering interoperability in Rwanda.
If you’re at #IFF2026, pass by the booth. Let’s exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and keep pushing the conversation on how connected payment systems can move not just money, but opportunity across Africa.
