Obviously Texas is different, but I would assume that there is an analog to Florida law, which is the Strahan case that states it’s unconstitutional to limit voir dire if there are reasonable topics remaining to be discussed with the jury that relate to the case stating that it’s unconstitutional to the right to a fair and impartial jury trial. There is potentially an argument given the magnitude and size of the Carmelo Anthony jury trial that 90 minutes was wholly insufficient but the DA would have to properly preserve the record by stating the topics to be discussed and why they are relevant in that particular case.
@NullifiedValue@sharghzadeh You are both saying the same thing. It’s like one person saying E =MC2 and I’m like, na ugh, m = E/c2. It’s the same fucking thing, just the inverse.
@u_ringingbells@the_jefferymead I actually don’t believe any of this. I believe it’s all an artifice to drum up hate and try and fake outrage. Everyone knows if you allow this guy to walk free we are going to have severe problems.
Fucking bullshit. There wasn’t a single scratch on him - defense showed zero damage on him. It was clearly more psychologically sure. Zero physical damage - you realize that if psychological damage justifies murder that you will be seeing an insane amount of murder coming down the pipeline.
People need to get it through their heads that being “pressed” doesn’t justify murder.
@EmperorArthur@ace39Y2K@2RawTooReal If you believe that this level of a threat = justified murder, then be prepared for A LOT of black kids to be rightfully murdered bc all that happened was at worst, a physical fight.
I support killing anyone taking another human to an island and killing or torturing them. I believe in executing any adult that violates a child. I don’t care if they are white, black, blue or green. I accept that white people are more likely to engage in that behavior, and the perpetrators race is irrelevant in my support of society killing such a predator, which of course is more likely to be white.
I genuinely don’t understand the support that Karmelo received from the black community. Flip the races, I would want the white who stabbed the black to be sent to jail as well. It’s called standards.
Criminal justice needs a lot of fixing, but this case specifically isn’t it. Project out the result of this case if he’s allowed to walk free. If anyone shows any aggression and you can after the fact say you feared for your life, you’re legally now allowed to stab someone to death.
Think beyond just the two races here and play a mental experiment: if a black person comes up to you and pushes a white person, do they get to stab them in their heart and walk away? Think about that? Is that the society that you want to live in? Karmelo didn’t even have a single scratch on him. That would mean the following:
“Aggression towards you = killling justified”
Do you think that’s an appropriate standard to have?
@LisaMerciez@prmade313raised It’s called an analogy it will never be perfect. Understand the essence of what I’m saying and jive with it. If you want to be an autist about small details you’re a dishonest human that can be ignored.
Do you remember when white cops used to claim “I feared for my life” and everyone knew that was bullshit? Well that’s exactly what happened here. He didn’t fear for his life. We as a society understand that we have to protect legitimate self defense (I feared for my life), from ego based opportunism (I feared for my life).
This was a statement about how we want to live in a society. We don’t want people murdering others bc their ego gets tripped.
