#CIFF48 film 10: North American premiere of Jeremy Borison's "Unspoken." This film, in the vein of recent Netflix series "Heartstopper," has potential as a YA sale to a streamer. @ciff

#CIFF48 film 9: Doc "Sugarcane," codirected by @emilykassie and @jnoisecat, follows survivors of Canadian Indian residential schools. The intersection of colonialism and physical/sexual abuse has rarely been captured as well as it has been here. A truly harrowing watch. @ciff

#CIFF48 film 8: "The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed," writer/director @arnowjo's deadpan hellscape of millennial surrender. She's like Lena Dunham crossed with a mid-30s Daria Morgendorffer, and I loved every second of this film. @ciff

#CIFF48 film 7: Anik Jean's "My Mother's Men," about a woman who must visit her deceased mother's five ex-husbands. Très romcom-y, but I could definitely see it being remade as an American film with five great middle-aged character actors (Paul Giamatti, call your agent). @ciff

#CIFF48 film 6: Robert Kolodny's "The Featherweight," a biopic of Italian-American boxer Willie Pep. Mockumentary staging helps it avoid boxing film clichés. Movie's soul is James Madio's heartfelt performance, emulating Pesci, not De Niro. (Also, fantastic meatball scene.) @ciff

#CIFF48 film 5 was "Femme," from co-writers/directors Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping, starring "1917"'s George MacKay. If Paul Verhoeven and Kenneth Anger had ever collaborated, it might have looked something like this revenge noir. @ciff

#CIFF48 film 4: Marie Amachoukeli-Barsacq's "Àma Gloria" features an unforgettable performance by six-year-old Louise Mauroy-Panzani as a French child visiting Cape Verde. In a beautiful touch, impressionistic interstitial animation sequences represent formative memories.
