Great programs for K-12 this summer. From grassroots, to competitive, to college identification.

Unfortunately this is extremely false information. Many mid-major programs with smaller budgets who can’t fly to every event across the country and don’t have full-time assistants, seriously utilize their ID clinics to initially begin to identify players. Stop ruining it for us!
@MTSmith78 Yes, students do transfer for academics as well. Major change, rigor, prestige, networking, any and all academic reasons are legitimate reasons.
I chose it for my personal development. I find it to be positive overall. But others might not find them to be worthwhile.
@MTSmith78 Last one for me. That comes down to HR hiring policies.
A bachelors degree already narrows the list of quality coaches at the college level at most institutions.
Having license requirements puts a financial burden on a coach of over $10,000. Narrowing the hiring pool further.
@MTSmith78 Do ALL other sports require coaching licenses?
I have the USSF A-Senior & United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma. I don’t tout that as making me a better coach than others without any licenses.
Can we provide coaches resources?
Athletes transfer for a plethora of reasons.
@MTSmith78 They are still student-athletes and maintain amateur status.
Every institution has their HR hiring policies. I don’t think that is for US Soccer or the NCAA to intervene.
Resources ($) could be provided to make coaching education more attainable. Coach Ed doesn’t = Great coach.
This should be interesting :)
30-minutes of me sharing my views on the 2-semester playing season as a DI coach, former DI men's soccer player, and I will touch on topics such as the calendar, benefits, conflicts, support staff, facilities, etc. ⚽️

Many have asked my thoughts- so sharing perspective on common reactions/questions I’m hearing. I see this through a deep, personal college soccer lens- player, fan, longtime broadcaster, parent (men and women), Chair of US Soccer NextGen Cmte, and now US Soccer COO. 🧵
@Hirsch_Tweets As far as budget concerns. Two main expenses are preseason and travel. This proposal would see program spending reduced by $25,000 to $50,000 annually.
Don’t shoot the messenger, it’s true if people actually look at the proposal, the calendar, and the history of spending.
Yes! As a college coach, and former college player I’m 100% in support of this model.
I understand the climate, and support staff concerns. They’re real… but I’ve also seen it snow on Halloween in Banner Elk, NC and Erie, PA.
This model benefits the student-athlete.

@Hirsch_Tweets Yes, a survey was done and hundreds of them no longer play college soccer.
2nd, if something is scientifically beneficial to health & well-being, it should be discussed, right?
I’m not slamming my fists for this. I’m simply sharing my opinion and spreading education on it.
@MTSmith78 Program Stability.. ex. a freshman isn’t losing their first HC in November after just 12 weeks of college soccer.
Having a coach/staff in place through the academic year in theory helps build a stable program, less transition/turnover of coaches midyear, and no midyear portal.
Can we take a deep breath for a moment?
The 2-semester playing season has been studied, presented and tweaked for over a decade. More info, and education needs to be shared…
If someone has more updated sources, please share.

@MTSmith78 I think it would be difficult to alter an institutions HR & hiring procedures.
Perhaps US Soccer can find a way to partner with more NCAA coaches?
I don’t see why roster limits would be an issue to this calendar. In fact, I think a 2-semester model promotes (continued…)
🚨 Transfer Portal Success!! We love seeing players use the #TransferPortal to find a great Division 1 program to call home – new kit, new crest, same dream and we are excited to watch the next chapter ⚽️🚀
How?
1. Less missed class time
2. More recovery time between matches = Less injuries
3. Less matches missed due to injuries
Ex. Sprained Ankle (2-weeks out)
Fall Only: 4 missed games ~20% of the season
2-Semester : 2 missed games ~10% of the season
