@greenlegocats Lots of this stuff seems like it was mandated by state laws or courts. I don't really think Roblox had any control over some of these recent changes.
@soouply@Neatz0 Whenever Roblox makes major changes to the platform, its always in relations to some legal issues (whether that be child safety, copyright laws, etc). I think it's pretty safe to assume this is just one of the many updates made in the past few months due to child safety issues.
@soouply@Neatz0 But you totally miss the point of the update. It isn't a dumb change. As I've said before, its to regulate transactions between users. Chances are this update was quite literally forced onto the platform through safety requirements set by the state.
@410Bits@HelloItsVG What would the point of the middleman be if they didn't profit. There's now an official system for people to use in order to donate Robux, which can be controlled. It's about time this stuff is regulated.
@soouply@Neatz0 The subscription gives both roblox and authorities a billing address to go after in the case of a bad actor utilizing the donation system. The limit in which you can donate is to make large amounts of robux from compromised accounts more difficult to transfer.
@soouply@Neatz0 The API as a whole is still there, just certain parts of it are being changed/removed. Obviously you cannot predict the future, but it should come as no surprise when they finally do announce major changes to it, which impact games.
@soouply@Neatz0 I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of these changes were drafted up in a courtroom, and mandated by an out of touch group of government officials. As I said before, this update is mostly in the interest of safety, although chances are Roblox has their hands tied legally.
@soouply@Neatz0 It wasn't working well; It was totally unregulated. The new system has these regulations and protections put into place. All it simply does is cut out the 3rd party middleman, while also providing official channels for donations to go through.
@soouply@Neatz0 are interacting with online. It's pretty well documented where predators would prey on vulnerable users and offer them things such as robux in exchange for malicious things. Parents now have the tools to safeguard their children from any sort of bad actors looking to pay them.
@soouply@Neatz0 The 40% method uses literally the same API that any donation game uses. The loophole was tied, and as a result donation games took a hit. Furthermore, yes this update is indeed for safety reasons. To put it quite bluntly, it gives parents more control over who their children 1/2
