Elam and co seem to have ushered in a new day. In his first season, Elam has taken the Terps from 4 wins to 8 and beat #24 Oklahoma in the Citrus Bowl. Huge offseason incoming. #FearTheTurtle
Terps barely outside the T25, getting significant votes in both the coaches and media polls. They’ll face 2 blue-blood programs facing tough seasons (USC/Penn State) to close the season near the top of the B1G and potentially as a ranked team for the first time in a long time.
Terps get to bowl eligibility, beating the Boilermakers 28-20 on the road. The back stretch of the schedule is the toughest collection of games. Terps face Wisconsin, USC, and Penn State to close.

Coach Elam was content to kick a FG to go up 6 with a minute to go. On the ensuing drive, Nebraska scored an 84-yard TD on its first play from scrimmage.
Needing just a FG, the Terps threw a pick at midfield.
Terps are sloppy and wasteful on offense and as a result are shutout at home against Va. Tech. Malik and co started hot but failed 2 4th down attempts inside the 5. Receivers had a total of 6 dropped passes, making it nearly impossible for sustained rhythm.

Coming off a season that saw the Vols win 10 and get to the 2nd round of the CFP, Elam and co gave their sights set much higher. “We love the gauntlet and we get the process it’ll take to get where we want to go, we’re head down and straight to work.”

The Vols cap National signing day with the #6 class in the nation. Edge Bryan Schooley highlights the group as the Gatorade National player of the year and overall #1 recruit. Elam said he expects Schooley to be an immediately impactful presence up front.
Elam closes the year with his second consecutive Music City Bowl. His tone was defiant, though. “All due respect, I didn’t come here to win the Music City Bowl every year. We’ve got our eyes forward on much bigger hardware. We’re grateful, but we have to get better”
Vols fall in the kickoff classic to VaTech. It was a shootout but the UT defense couldn’t get a stop when they needed one. Despite the explosive offensive output, team starts a tough schedule 0-1. We’ll see how far they drop in the 25, started the year at 10.
“We hit our goal for this year. Winning 10 and getting a postseason win were our priorities. But we’re building champions and everything we do from this point is in service to that. We’re building and we’ve just begun.”
Vols finish the regular season 9-3 (5-3) and await their fate. Most models have them facing Baylor in the Texas Bowl.
