Chip Roy, Andy Biggs, Byron Donalds, Ralph Norman and other big Freedom Caucus names will be gone next year
"It’s terrifying," said Rep. Lauren Boebert. "I’m there for now … We’re losing the greats."
Relationship with Trump and GOP leadership will be affected by whether Rs keep the House
“In the past two years, we’ve been in the majority, so our efforts are actually lawmaking efforts,” Current Chair Andy Harris said. “That’s very different from when you’re in the minority, where you’re just being vocal and adhering to 100 percent of your ideals.”
But members say its maximum-pressure ethos & commitment to fiscal restraint will remain core to its DNA
The next generation of big HFC names? Keith Self, Brandon Gill, Eric Burlison - and likely new freshman like Brandon Herrera

Starting now: the debate and voting process on the GOP’s high-priority immigration enforcement funding package.
Senators voted to advance the bill in a party-line vote today.

Happy Monday. It's a big week in the Senate, to put it mildly. To name a few spicy issues up for debate: spy powers, war powers, Iran, and, of course, immigration enforcement $.

Great to be back.
For this week's edition of On The Ballot, @jmthewriter and I walk you through the very-not-confusing-totally-understandable redistricting math as it stands right now.
We also delve into the math behind Sen. Cornyn's loss against TX AG Ken Paxton.
And don't miss! @harrisonjaime tells us what's fueling him this midterm cycle (He's quite possibly becoming a candy influencer for me repping the Albanese Gummi Bears!)

Senate Rs are furious over Trump dropping his "anti-weaponization" fund into their careful reconciliation plans — but their anger extends to a whole litany of issues.

A classic tale: House Republicans are fuming that the Senate punted on the budget reconciliation bill ahead of a week-long recess.
@KochiSudiksha reports: https://t.co/aej7D5pXQc
Plenty of Republicans in Congress are furious about Trump's "anti-weaponization" fund, which pushed senators to abruptly decide to punt on their reconciliation bill and leave town today.

Sen. Mitch McConnell hammers acting AG Blanche over DOJ's anti-weaponization "slush fund."
“So the nation’s top law enforcement official is asking for a slush fund to pay people who assault cops? Utterly stupid, morally wrong – Take your pick,” McConnell says in statement.
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) indicates that Senate GOP leaders will postpone action on budget reconciliation bill amid disagreements over Trump administration anti-weaponization fund and other issues.
"There will not be a vote today," he says after leaving GOP lunch.
Sen. Cassidy votes for Kaine motion to discharge Iran War Powers resolution from Senate Foreign Relation Committee joining Murkowski, Collins and Paul on the GOP side.
NEW w/ @jmthewriter---> Trump's endorsement of Paxton over Cornyn roils Texas Senate race
“If the president thought he was going to bend senate leadership and conference to his will on things like ballroom funding to reconciliation three, he might want to quickly reassess his political positioning. His leverage is now pretty much gone,” said one GOP source.

Collins: Paxton "is an ethically challenged individual."
Murkowski: "I don’t understand it."
Thune (stone-faced): "It’s his decision."
Senate Rs are not happy with Trump's endorsement of Paxton. More from @alexanderbolton: https://t.co/oDYogY57XS
Remember when Trump endorsed "ERIC" in the Missouri Senate primary and called former Governor Eric Greitens and then Attorney General Eric Schmitt ahead of his statement to tell them they'd be "happy" with his decision.

NEW: I sat down with Cuba's top diplomat in the US during an eventful 24 hours for the island.
Lianys Torres Rivera discussed everything from the fuel crisis, how they are preparing for a potential invasion, and pressures underlying stalled negotiations.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune sounds cool on suspending the gas tax, pointing out that it funds the Highway Trust Fund.
"The best way to get gas prices to normalize in my view is to get the Strait [of Hormuz] open," he said. "We do have a Highway Trust Fund and it does perform an important service in making sure that we've got highways and roadways across our country that are serviceable.
He notes that "cutting the gas tax would affect that" and says "we'll see where our members are."
House Ethics Committee issues statement on its investigation into Rep. Cory Mills
Says it has authorized more than 20 subpoenas, collected thousands of documents, and contacted dozens of witnesses
Says DC Police's decision to not charge Mills after Feb 2025 incident "decision not to bring charges is not a finding of innocence or “no wrongdoing," and that it's also looking at the restraining order a Florida court granted to a former girlfriend
