Over a year ago, I reported that the Göttingen Public Prosecutor's Office (our beloved hate and incitement task force) was once again investigating me over a meme.

The background at the time involved protests by left-wing (called "liberals" in American terms) women who were demonstrating in front of Tesla dealerships, smashing windows and doing other things. The behavior of these individuals was characterized by violence, intolerance, and totalitarian conduct toward political opponents.

I was shown a meme from an American page. It features an image from the well-known film American History X starring Edward Norton. A fat neo-Nazi is sitting on a chair getting his head shaved bald.

The meme is captioned "liberal women after a long day of vandalizing teslas" ("Left-wing women after a long day of demolishing Teslas"). So the meme is an ironic allusion to the totalitarian behavior of Elon Musk's opponents.

The real problem, however, is the swastika tattoo that the neo-Nazi in the meme is wearing.

That's why Göttingen initiated investigations against me for "use of symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations."

Today I received a penalty order for a completely insane 9750€ (75 daily rates at 130€ each).

An arbitrary assessment. Just like the penalty order itself. My lawyer will file an objection against the decision. Then the whole thing goes to court. Similar to the incitement case that ended in an acquittal, this could once again mean a years-long, costly legal battle for me. But by now, I'm most worried about my mother, who's over 70, for whom all this is hardly bearable anymore, so I have to seriously think about whether I can still handle it all like this.

Paying and accepting the penalty order isn't an option, unfortunately, because on the one hand you'd get a record, and on the other, because my lawyer assesses that it clearly has to end in a penalty-free outcome.

But the attrition until then is downright insane.
